Meter Calibration Procedure

This meter kit has the capability of voltage and current calibration, as well as current-dependant voltage off-
set. The “Off-set” calibration corrects the displayed voltage to the approximate arc voltage at the weld gun
contact tip even though the meter voltage pick-up is at the power source output studs.

Since all meters are factory calibrated, it is not recommended to use the off-set calibration method unless
the actual arc voltage at the weld pool is required. Most welding applications do not require this method of
calibration.

Standard Calibration Mode

For standard calibration, an accurate reference voltmeter, ammeter and a resistance load are required.
The resistance load should be set for at least 100A current flow. The voltage reference meter should be
connected to the same potentials (locations) as the calibrated factory supplied meter or across the output
studs. In most cases the resistive load has a calibrated set of meters (volts & amps) and can be used for this
calibration method.

Calibration Procedure
1) Switch the machine “On” and load it to at least 100 amps. The meter should indicate voltage and current
is present.
2) While a load is applied to the machine, simultaneously, press and hold for 3seconds both push buttons
(S1 & S2) on the meter PC board. Symbols of the calibration modes appear in sequence: Release the
buttons as the required mode appears.
a) “U” - voltage calibration
b) “I” - current calibration
c) “dU” - voltage off-set.
3) Adjust the voltage or the current value equal to the value shown by the reference meter by means of the
push buttons:
a) S1 - “+” to increase the displayed value.
b) S2 - “-” to decrease the displayed value.

Voltage Off-Set Mode

The reference voltmeter should be connected to the end of work lead and to the torch contact tip (or as
close to the contact tip as possible), which are also connected to the external resistive load. In this mode,
as well as during regular welding, the meter shows a voltage that includes the voltage drop on the welding
cables and welding gun. An off-set adjustment of the voltage should be carried out at load currents above
100A and at arc voltages that are representative of a good welding condition. Use the method in step 3
above to set the voltage to the desired off-set reference.

Note
Voltage off-set should be carried out using calibrated voltage and current instrumentation and is only valid using the installed work lead
and gun cable length and size..
