1 Start-up procedure 440V

SAFETY NOTE! If emergency stop button is not functional, the system is not to be used
until it is fixed.

1. Verify that EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH is released

2. Check that switch for control voltage is set to position.1 (Main Supply)
3. Verify correct voltage on the cabinet. The voltage must be approximately 690VAC

4. Set MAIN SWITCH in the frequency converter cabinet to 1 (ON)

5. Check that the operation switch “REM-MAN-AUTO” is the MAN position
6. Turn the 0-1-start switch to START. (S10) (it takes 15 seconds before the main breaker
engages) NOTE! The 0-1 switch is spring operated, this means that the switch will return to 1.

7. When the AFE READY lamp illuminates the input stage of the converter is running and the
output stage of the converter starts and is powering the isolating transformer.

8. Set Control voltage to ON. Check volt and frequency in the display/meter on the output
cabinet.

9. If needed, adjust the voltage and frequency with buttons on the cabinet. Voltage and
frequency must be same as ship. Make sure both connection cabinets is closed. (the door
switch trips the 440V breaker)
10. The440V output breaker can now be closed. See 1.2 and 1.3 for different methods.

1.2 Synchronization
Synchronization is used when connecting to “live” ship power grid. The shore power can be
synchronized to the ship power supply enabling a seamless power transfer without disruption of vessel
services.

1. Check voltage, voltage must be same as ship. If necessary, adjust voltage by using buttons on
the cabinet.
2. Check synchro scope and adjust with the push buttons “HZ UP/DOWN” until the shore power
and the grid are in synchrony. When synchroscope illuminates “SYNC OK” the pushbutton for
440V OUTPUT BREAKER CLOSE can be activated to close the breaker.

NOTE! An interlock is implemented so that MAIN BREAKER ON can only be activated when
SYNC OK is illuminated

3. Verify that all ventilation fans are running.

1.3 Connecting shore power to un-powered grid (dead ship)

NOTE! When connecting to un-powered grid it is necessary to use the override function in the
system. Always prior to using the override, make sure the connecting grid is un-powered.

1. Verify that the connecting grid is un-powered. Adjust the voltage and frequency with buttons
on the cabinet if necessary.
2. Press and hold SYNC OVERIDE while pressing 440V OUTPUT CLOSE (This will override the
interlock in the system)
3. Verify that all ventilation fans are running

1.4 Use of the 230V connection cabinet

1. Make sure the 440V connection is not in use for other boats.
2. Verify that the connecting grid is un-powered. (no power from ship)
3. The 440V output must be activated to use the 230V connection.
Press and hold SYNC OVERIDE while pressing 440V OUTPUT CLOSE (This will override the
interlock in the system)

4. Set 230V CONNECTION CABINET to ON

5. Open output cabinet to operate the 230V output breaker. It is not possible to sync on the
230V connection.

NOTE! If the breaker is in middle position, you must reset

it by putting it to OFF before you switch it to ON.

6. After use set 230V CONNECTION CABINET to OFF

1.5 Shutting down the system

1. Before shutting down the SPS, the load needs to be reduced to under 200kW for a minimum
of 10 minutes. This is to allow the converter to cool properly down before shutting down.
2. Press 440V OUTPUT OPEN

3. Set CONTROL VOLTAGE SWITCH to OFF

4. Turn the 0-1-start swith to 0

5. Set MAIN SWITCH in the frequency converter cabinet to 0 (OFF)

6. Set HEATING ON/OFF switch to ON and verify that it illuminates blue.

1.6 Trouble shooting

1. Check if the INVERTER FAULT lamp is illuminated. If this is lid red, check active alarms in the
two displays. (Alarms can be reset by pressing RESET on the display)
2. Check that correct voltage is present in the INPUT cabinet
3. Check that doors on connection cabinets is closed. (door switch)
4. Check if the FAULT 440V lamp on the output cabinet is illuminated. If so reset breakers inside
the cabinet, by pressing the red reset tap on the breaker.
