We all know our technological society has sky rocketed, but some think of this more
disapprovingly. With anything in life there are pros and cons, the article 10 Reasons Today’s
Students NEED Technology in the Classroom, highlights the struggles of incorporating new
technologies in the classroom perfectly. There are two main reasons for the difficulty of
implementing the newest technology: Schools are on the fence on the topic and think it might be
used more as a toy instead of a tool or schools want to add new tech, but their networks aren’t
One main theme that I came across while reading was that giving students the new
technology allowed a sense of independence. This new-found independence comes from being
trusted with an expensive piece of equipment and to use it appropriately. The responsibility of
treating the devise with care allows the student to improve on their decision-making skills which
is a great outside the class skill to have. To ensure the devices are properly being used, as an
educator, we need to teach our students to be good digital citizens. We educate our students the
importance of using the web and citations correctly as well as treating the technology with care.

Incorporating new technology into the classroom also changes the whole learning
experience for students. Many children now grow up with a smart phone in their hand and know
how to properly access apps. By taking these devices away have the potential of harming their
learning environments. We need to look at it like this, our smart boards are the old day’s black
boards. We use what we know and have available to us. Allowing students to use tablets, laptops,
and apps gives them the information they new in the most up to date, fastest and accurate way.

Combining technology with traditional classroom instruction also creates new opportunities for
