Cognitive Observation

I. PART A

A. A 12 month child begins to throw and shake objects begins to bang things

together.

B. The child seems to present sensorimotor in the substage of 4 Coordinating

Secondary Circular Reactions.

C. The toys or materials that will help a child to move on to the next stage will be a

ball or nesting cups. A ball will help the child learn the concept of repetition. The

child will bounce the ball and want to repeat the concept to see what will occur

with the ball. Nesting cups will the child because they will want to stack them

back up the way they were.

D. The teacher guides the child while he is interacting with the child. For the ball

drop the teacher suggests the child to drop the ball from different heights which

helps the child understand the concept repetition. He drops the ball and you see

the same reaction as to when the child first bounced the fall. It gets the child

curiouse to keep discovering. The child then reaches for a different size ball to

discover the same concept. He then reaches for a different type of material of ball

and discovers a new concept about the that ball. The classroom provided all
different types of stacking cups and different sizes of balls for the children to play

with.

II. PART B

A. The child of 18 months can distinguish ordinary objects. She shows interest in

stuff animals such as dolls plays with them as she is feeding them.

B. The child shows signs that she is in the substage 6 which is the beginnings of

symbolic representation.

C. Toys that child will help them move on to the next stage will be toys such as dress

up and pretend toys.

D. The teacher plays pretend games with the child such as having them play cooking

games and also dress up as doctors. Some of the children play with objects that

make them believe they are cooking or being doctors in the classroom.
