Quizzes: On-line quizzes are given weekly. There are two types of quizzes—
on-line and in class {this term will have online quizzes only}. Weekly quizzes are NOT “on-demand”.
You will need to schedule time outside of class to take them. They are ‘hot’ for a 24-hour period. Once an
online exam is opened, time begins and the test will not re-open if you close it.
On-line quizzes are given through the Cisco Academy web site. You will use
your userid and password given to you by the instructor at the beginning of
term for this site.
Tests: There are three types of tests: Written, online and hands-on.
Four tests are scheduled: One written VLSM Mid-Term Exam, one Mid-Term Hands-On Test, one
Online Final Exam and one Final Hands-On Test. The Hands-On tests will be created by the
instructor. No student is allowed to help another student during an exam or hands-on
test. Violation of this rule is in violation of student code of conduct
and is considered to be dishonest.
Labs: Lab exercises are given throughout the term. Lab exercises may be
made up, but only if it is turned in within one week of the class.
10 points will be deducted for the late exercise. For example, an exercise
is due on Tuesday, at 6:00, but you do not complete it by then. You have until
6:00 on Tuesday of the following week, to turn in that exercise. The teacher is
not responsible for ensuring that you get the exercise in a timely manner.
Open Lab: The open lab room is in development at this time at Kent.
There is an open lab at the ATC building room 225. Open lab hours are posted outside
every classroom, including the open lab. The student assistants that man the lab are not tutors.
They are there to check out parts and software, help if the computer you are assigned does not
function properly, or demonstrate how to get into a particular operating system.
Reading: Reading assignments are expected to be completed before the next class.
Reading assignments are listed in the Topic List and the reading info can also be found on-line.
Class time will not be given for lesson assignments.
Electronic Devices: Turn all cell phones and pagers off or place them in
silent mode while attending class. You will be asked to leave or give
the cell phone/pager to the instructor for the remainder of the class if it
becomes a problem. Laptop computers are not to be used unless it is
to perform class exercises.
The chapters referenced in the following Topic List are from the textbook – the online modules may be slightly
different. The weekly online quizzes will cover the online module numbers noted – be sure to check the
content of the online modules to make sure it corresponds to the textbook chapters covered for the week.
Topic List for the Week of: Because the Labs will require much of the class time, quizzes must be completed on
your own time – they will be available on Tuesday and Thursday of each week.
