Mr. Stephen Spencer, Director of Personnel
Recruiting Department
Tucson Medical Center
5301 E. Grant Road
Tucson, Arizona 85712
Dear Mr. Spencer:
In response to your job advertisement on the Tucson Medical Center website, please
consider me for the position in Microbiology division as the Medical Lab Technician. My
academic training in Microbiology at the University of Arizona, along with my experience
at Sonora Quest Laboratories, qualifies me for the position.
My education at the University of Arizona has given me a strong scientific background in
diagnostic microbiology techniques. I have focused on biochemical assays,
bioinformatics, and culture dilutions and stains in three graduate-level biotechnology
courses. For my final project, I am working with one other undergraduate in using the
Ames test to detect possible mutagenic substances in Pseudomonas sp.
While working at the Sonora Quest Laboratory, I was able to apply my practical
laboratory skills to the field of diagnostic laboratory sciences. I compile protocols,
document findings, use aseptic technique, and follow GLP (good laboratory practices).
The enclosed résumé provides an overview of by education and experience. I am
available at your convenience to discuss my qualifications for this position. Please leave
a message any time at (520) 555 - 3999 or email me at mdurckel@email.arizona.edu.
Thank you,

Meredythe Durckel
Professional Brand Plan

My professional brand is a microbiologist with practical laboratory skills. I present myself online
through an online portfolio, professional websites, and social media sites.
1. Online Portfolio
https://engl313portfolio.weebly.com/

This was originally built as a beginning for the professional writing certificate, thus is
showcases prompts used in the course. If I were to build on this and focus directly on my
field of expertise I would include lab techniques I am familiar with, protocols, photos, and
perhaps examples from my laboratory notebook.

2. Professional Website
