(2) Outline of function
* The Interlock switch is accordingly work with the lamp cover at the bottom of main
chassis. It is normally at the ON position. It will shut the AC power by opening the
lamp cover.
Cable connected to the connector CN 505 on the main board is the signal line to
indicate the conditions of two fans (exhaust fan and inhale fan) which are connected
to the connector CN 502 on the main board. They will shut the power to the
light source lamp for preventing over heat in case of the fan malfunctionally stops
rotating.
The filter/rectification circuit work to neglect noise on the AC line and generate DC
The regulator generates the various level of DC voltage as shown in the below table in
the switching regulator. The regulator detects the voltage output level at the line
and feed back to the switching circuit to maintain the output level stable regardless the
load variation.
The inhale fan is built for exhausting the heat generated in the power supply unit. The
heat exhausted by the inhale fan will be exhausted outside by the exhaust fan which is
connected to the’connector CN 503 on the main board.

Outline of function
* When the power turns on, the driver board resets the reset signal which is controlled
by and the CPU reads the program from flash ROM and write it into RAM
Then the CPU sets functions according to the program and indicates the
initial image.
* There is a digital video at the interface between the video board to generate a
timing of indicating the image data received or execute the data bit converting (A/D)
for writing the received analog image data to S-RAM.
* The data stored in the S-RAM is converted in analog signals by D/A converter.
The output will be divided into 8 bits for each of R/G/B light valves by amplitude circuit
and clamp circuit.
* Digital R/G/B input signal is synchronized its indication data and the control timing by
three states buffer before output to the driver board.
* Analog R/G/B signal is amplified by the amplitude circuit and converted its individual
signals into data of 7 bits each by A/D converter circuit before output to the driver
board.
Analog R/G/B output signals will transmit the different ways in each case of the
analog input and the digital input.
(1) in case of analog R/G/B
The output of video amplitude will be output via video buffer.
(2) in case of digital R/G/B
The digital indication signals output from the driver board is once
converted into analog signals by the circuit and the D/A converter before
output through the video buffer.
* Audio input is controlled its volume (Laud/Quiet/Mute) by the audio control circuit and
amplified by the audio amplitude circuit before output to the speaker unit (Right/Left)
through the driver board.
* Audio input signal is transferred to the audio output interface via audio control circuit.
2-8
* The RS-353 is provided with a timer circuit that controls the operating time of the light
source valve. It’s operation is described below.
Light source state Lamp monitor state
When the operating time of the light The lamp monitor continues to flash red
source valve exceeds 700 hours. and orange for 5 minutes after it is turned
on. (The light source stays on)
When the operating time of the light The lamp monitor flashes in green and
source valve exceeds 1000 hours. orange. (The light source goes off)
When the light source valve runs out The lamp monitor lights in red.
before it’s life.
If the above phenomenon is observed, it is necessary to replace the light source valve
and reset the timer as follows:
While holding on the MENU and SYNC- switches, press and hold the POWER switch
until the three monitor lamps (Operation monitor, Lamp monitor, and Temperature
monitor) start flashing simultaneously in orange (for approx. 3 seconds).
2.4 BOARD
The driver board has a circuit for converting the signal from the main board into six
states of analog signals and controlling the brightness and detecting the temperature.
The board is a subject of replacement as a unit in the maintenance service except the
fuses on the board shown below.
Fuse Specification Usage

(600mA) Valve Driver
(520mA) Control circuits
Figure 10
The timing signals (which are for monitor) output from the main board is converted into
the signals for light valves (LCD) by the before output to them.
The sub-brightness circuit modifies the output level of the R/G/B analog signals with
controlling the clamping circuit for analog display signals.
The temperature detection circuit is installed for overheat protection of the circuit
section. If the temperature rise of the section is more than certain degrees, the circuit
causes an interrupt to the CPU on the main board.

Disassembly and assembly
3.1 Disassembly and Assembly Procedures
This section explains how to disassemble the LCP. The reassembly procedure is the
exact reverse of the disassembly procedure.
(1) Preparatory Procedure
1) Remove any ring, wrist watch, cuff buttons, or other metal accessories that are likely
to get in contact with the equipment.
2) Wear gloves.
3) Wear a wrist band and ground it. Place a ground mat.
4) Turn off the main unit and the host computer.
5) Unplug the power cord from the main unit and service outlet.
6) Disconnect the interface cable from the main unit.
7) Clean the air filter, interface and case cover with a vacuum cleaner.
(3) Precautions
Precautions given to the individual assembly and’disassembly procedures. Read
them carefully before starting the assembly or disassembly procedure. A set of
general precautions are given below.
As you disassemble the main unit of the LCP, dust that is to the internal fans
and air filters is likely to migrate and contaminate the light bulbs G, and B which
are the heart of the display mechanism, thus deteriorating the display quality.
Accordingly, before reassembling the LCP, check the light bulbs for dust and, if
necessary, clean them with a vacuum cleaner.
The light bulbs R, G, and B and circuit board assemblies are highly sensitive to static
electricity. When you remove a light bulb block, place it in an antistatic bag
immediately.
When you perform the assembly or disassembly operations listed below, check the
pertinent unit and its peripheral lens and glass surfaces for any dirt before reinstalling
them. If the unit is found dirty, clean it with isopropyl alcohol.
1. Disassembling the light guide unit
2. Removing the prism unit
3-1
3. Removing the light bulbs R, G, and B
4. Removing the projection lens unit
Handle the projection lens and light guide units with care as they are highly susceptible
to vibration and shock.
Do not try to disassemble any part (e.g., power supply unit) that is not covered in this
manual.
When you perform one of the removal or replacement operations listed in the table
below, you need to perform checks and adjustments that are explained in Chapters 5.
Perform necessary adjustments and checks before reinstalling the upper case units.

Adjustments
5.1 Focus and Alignment Adjustment
Since the focus of the light bulbs R, G, and B varies with their layout, whenever a light
bulb block is replaced or disassembled, it is necessary to adjust the position of the light
bulbs. This adjustment is performed using the position of the light bulb G as the
reference position.
The focus and alignment adjustment procedure to be conducted varies depending on
the position and the type of the replaced light bulb. The table below summarizes the
adjustments that are necessary for aligning the light bulbs.
Table 5-1

8. Make sure that the LCP completes the warm-up sequence (the flashing lamp monitor
LED stays on in green) in scores of seconds and displays a rectangular pattern.
The display pattern projected at this time is shown in Figure 5-2.
Adjust the parallelism between the LCP main unit and the screen and adjust the foot
adjuster unit so that the display screen appears precisely rectangular (measure the
length of the sides shown in Figure 5-2 and make sure that the vertical and horizontal
sides are of the same length).
9. Manipulate the focus ring so that the projection image is just in focus.
IO. Attach a piece of pressure sensitive adhesive double coated tape on the back
panel of the small-size mirror and stick it to the screen at the position at which the
production line from the projection lens unit intercept (10 cm from the bottom edge of
the projection screen). Place a tracing paper in front of the projection lens unit and
adjust the position of the mirror so that the light reflected from the small mirror is
incident to the center or slightly above the center of the projection lens (see Figures
5-1 and 5-3).
(This check using a mirror is required to ensure that the screen and LCP change their
position.)

Focus adjustment
Perform the positional adjustment first on the light bulb G and perform positional
adjustments the other light bulbs with respect to the light bulb G. You make just as
focusing individually and not mean to obtain the alignment. Consequently, this
adjustment alone cannot provide perfect display quality. When making a focus
adjustment, take care not to change the position of the LCP, screen, (occasionally
check the optical axis for misalignment using the reflected ray from the mirror).
Adjustment tool is prepared by EPSON witch is useful for focus and alignment
adjustment. If you don’t have this tool, ‘you can take the. focus and alignment
adjustment with driver board. When the driver board is mounted, we can’t secure the
enough space for adjustment and produce hard operations.
When you have this tool, remove the driver board plug the three convectors by refering

5.2 Image Adjustment Program
This program is provided on a floppy disk to provide the adjustment functions
summarized in the table below.
Table 5-2
When running this program, prepare a host computer and a monitor and connect them
with the LCP-attached computer cable and an RS-232C cable. Insert the floppy disk
containing the image adjustment program in the drive in the host computer and run the
system on the host computer. A menu screen appears. Run the menu options and
program the resultant settings onto the flash ROM on the main board.

After completing the focus alignment, you should obtain the best display quality by
using Image adjustment program. This program specify the electrical parameters
in order to obtain best display quality.
5.2.2 Running the Program
The image adjustment program is supplied on a floppy disk. Follow the messages
that the image adjustment program issues as you execute menu options.
When menu options l-4 are executed, the image adjustment program transfers the
adjusted settings to the LCP via an RS-232C interface. This transfer is made on the
RAM in the LCP. Once the LCP is restarted, the settings are lost and invalidated.
For this reason, once you make adjustments using the image adjustment program,
choose the menu option 5, “Data Transfer,” so that the settings can be programmed
into the flash ROM in the LCP.
