PURPOSE
The purpose of this plan is to inform parents on how to help their children recognize and prevent
cyber bullying.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
EDUCATION STANDARDS
3.SE.1 Understand issues related to the safe, ethical, and responsible use of information and
technology resources.
3.SE.1.2 Understand ethical behavior (copyright, not plagiarizing, netiquette) when using
resources.
Teachers advocate for positive change in policies and practices affecting student learning. They
participate in the implementation of initiatives to improve the education of students. Teachers

should:
• Advocate for positive change in policies and practices affecting student learning; and
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital
culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and
technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate

b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing

NETS-S:
Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working
in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.

Students cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and are aware of the
permanence of their actions in the digital world.

Students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including
social interactions online or when using networked devices.
2c
Students demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and
sharing intellectual property.
2d
Students manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of
data-collection technology used to track their navigation online.
Young children are at risk for becoming the victims of cyber bullying when they have access to
mobile phones and/or the internet. All parents should be aware of the risks of cyber bullying and
know how to recognize, prevent, and report such behavior.

Any resources needed for this event should be submitted to the school principal for approval.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To raise awareness to parents of young children about the risks of cyber bullying.
2. Inform parents of websites where cyber bullying takes place.
3. Arm parents with knowledge on how to prevent, stop, and report cyber bullying.
4. Encourage limited and supervised internet use.
5. Help parents identify when their child could be the bully and provide them with resources
to help them.
6. Encourage to be involved and give their child reassurance and support if their child is a
victim of cyber bullying.
