Summary:
The School Based Health Educator will educate high school age students about behaviors that promote
wellness. Develop and implement strategies to improve the health of individuals and school community.

Responsibilities & Expectations:


 Conduct in class health education on the Thomas Jefferson School Campus in at least two of the
co-located high schools using assigned curricula.
 Evaluate effectiveness of curriculum lesson plans and revise as needed with implementation of
current best practices
 Conduct a series of ten (10) health education workshops to students in the areas of Nutrition,
Sexual Health, STIs and HIV/AIDS and Chronic Disease.
 Conduct at least 5 series for the school year on the Thomas Jefferson campus
 Collaborate with BPN Coordinators and School staff to increase program utilization, including
development and implementation of outreach strategies
 Develop a monthly report outlining program activities, workshops and meetings with school
administration to meet program needs
 Work with BPN’s evaluator to explore and evaluate additional curricula specific to MIH program
topic areas for expansion of the program and educational components.
 Using Peer Education evidence based tools and curricula, develop a Peer Health Education
program for the Thomas Jefferson Campus. Includes scheduling additional sessions to train peers
in peer education techniques and skills

Requirements:
 BA degree in social work, psychology, public health education or related field
 1 to 2 years’ experience in health education and/or healthcare related field
 Demonstrated familiarity counseling adolescents on reproductive health (experience preferred)
 Excellent organizational & customer service skills, able to manage competing demands &
monitor multiple projects simultaneously
 Must have excellent writing, editing, organizational and interpersonal skills
 Ability to develop a work-plan and timeline for program deliverables
