You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for

New York is a big city in the

New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty
United States (North
America). It takes thousand
of visitors every year. The city
has a population of around 8
million people. There is a lot
to see and do in New York.
You can visit the Central
Park, the Metropolian
museum and Time’s Square.
In the picture you can see the
Statue of Liberty, a monumet
built between 1875 and 1986.
It is 93 meters tall. The statue
is located on Liberty Island in
the Hudson River.

Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square
Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera
House
Because of its abundance of sites
and archaeological remains, Rome
is a true open-air museum. The
cradle of the history of Rome is the
Palatine, below which are the
Roman Forum, the Imperial
Forums and the Trajan's Market,
the centers of political, economic,
religious and social life of the
ancient world. A short distance
away is the Colosseum, the
monument that serves as a symbol
of Ancient Rome; On the nearby
hill Oppio are the remains of the
Domus Aurea, the golden house of
Nero.
The Sydney Opera House or Sydney
Opera House, located in the city of
Sydney, New South Wales State,
Australia, is one of the most famous
and distinctive buildings of the
twentieth century. Declared a World
Heritage Site in 2007, designed by the
Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1957
and inaugurated on October 20, 1973,
with the presence of Queen Elizabeth
II in her role as Queen of Australia.
Theater, ballet, opera or musical
productions are performed in the
building. It is home to the Opera
Australia company, the Sydney
Theater Company and the Sydney
Symphony Orchestra. It is managed by
the Opera House Trust, a public body
under the supervision of the New
South Wales Ministry of Art.
On its great rock, Edinburgh Castle
dominates the capital of Scotland.
Great events have taken place inside
your wall and you have witnessed
many sieges. The warriors of the Iron
Age understood the military potential of
the rock and built a fort on the hill here.
Wars of Independence, the castle
changed hands many times. In 1314, it
was retaken from the English in a
daring nocturnal incursion. The castle
was the home of kings and queens. In
1996, the Stone of Destiny, in which
kings were enthroned for centuries,
was returned to Scotland and exhibited
in the Hall of the Crown.

Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – The Burj
Khalifa
The emirate of Dubai is located on
the coast of the Persian Gulf of the
United Arab Emirates and has an
average height of approximately 11
meters above sea level. It borders
the south with the emirate of Abu
Dhabi, with the one of Sharjah for
the northeast and with the
Sultanate of Oman for the south-
east, through the exclave of Hatta
that also has border with the
emirates of Ajman by the west and
of Ras al- Jaima in the north. The
Gulf bathes the west coast of
Dubai.
