Assignment week-1

Name-Muskan Agarwal

Problem statement:
Identify and analyze a device which is an IOT device now, but was a non-IOT device in the past.
Compare the functions of the device in the past to the functions of the device now. Enumerate any
improvements,or any diminishments if they exist. Are there any limitations that are present in the new IOT
version of the device? Are there privacy issues that never existed in the original version of the device?
How does the price of the original device compare to the price of the new IOT version of the device?
When performing a price comparison, attempt to normalize for the changing value of currency over time
by using an online inflation calculator.

Solution
I choose Irrigation system as the topic for this assignment. Initially irrigation in
farms were done manually but presently we have a lot of devices that irrigate the
farms automatically and precisely by monitoring the soil moisture, weather
conditions and temperature. These data is taken from the sensors like DTH
temperature and humidity sensors etc.

In past farmers had to present physically in the farm to irrigate and moreover
sometimes due to careless nature or by mistake they over water the plant and thus
wasting water as well as sometimes this leads in crop damage. Also since most of
the farmers are uneducated so they don’t know appropriate amount needed by the
to grow and also can’t connect temperature and monsoons with irrigation which is
really important as it saves a lot of water which is the need of the hour. Presently
IOT device will water the plant depending on soil moisture and temperature
conditions. Thus saving a lot of time of the farmers as well as water and money.

Limitations for this IOT device can be that since we are installing the device in the
field and purpose is irrigation then the device may need a lot of maintenance and
will short too often and can cost extra money for the farmer and hence he would
prefer manual then this IOT device. Moreover there must be someone to check the
results to stop malfunctions etc
Their won’t be any privacy issues with the device and will be no security threats as
well.

The IoT based Automated Watering system framework might have been tried
looking into a field. The plant’s water prerequisite may be 600 -800mm a day and
temperature prerequisite of the dirt ranges from 50oC - 100oC. In the Arduino
code, the soil moisture level was situated as 0 - 300 (dry) and 300 - 800 (wet)
individually (which delineates the comparing imperviousness esteem to advanced
format). In view of given specified level the water gets irrigated and an
acknowledgment about irrigation was sent as an SMS to the farmer through their
mobile phones. Moreover, this framework turns out to be less expensive and
proficient in preserving water and decreasing water wastage.
