So I got my KS backer copy of Alchemical Crystal Quest and it's a beautifully made game, but the

rules are terribly translated and in a few places not translated at all, I had to use google translate.

After reading through the rules I have so many questions.

I know it's early and a lot of people are still waiting for their copies but I'm hoping someone can
explain a few things:

1. The Oracle Board: When activating the first space it says it gives "+1 defense point in case of
successful defense" What does that mean?
Is it 1 extra defense dice? +1 shield for each shield rolled? +1 shield for each die that rolls shields?
+1 to the total shields rolled if any shields are rolled?

1: +1 to the total if any shields are rolled.

2. Can you pick up another player's ammo?

Yes. But not the bananas if you are not Flamel (Ammunition tokens, page 18).

3. Can you use another player's ammo?

3: Yes, if you have the right weapon to use them.

4. How do you raise your magic level? The section on page 19 doesn't make sense. I assume you
start at magic level 1. When you learn your level 1 spell do you become magic level 2?
What happens when you learn your level 3 spell? do you stay at magic level 3? (there is no magic
level 4)

4: “The story itself will explain how to level up” (page 19). Read it, please.

5. Poison potions: It says you get an impact for every hit symbol rolled. There are no hit symbols,
there are impact symbols.
So if you roll one die and get 2 impacts, does it increase to 3 impacts? or is it +1 per impact rolled
so it would increase to 4 impacts? Or do you deal one extra damage per impact?

5: If you roll one die and get 2 impacts, it is +1 per impact rolled so it would increase to 4 impacts.
Poison potions, page 17.

6. It says you can do 3 actions on your turn. Can use two of them to do 2 Normal Actions? e.g. can
you Attack and Invoke a Pet in the same turn?

6: Obviously not. The rules are super clear here. See round, Wizards Turn, page 20. “Each player
can perform 3 DIFFERENT actions…” Movement action, normal action, crystal action. Attack and
invoke a pet are normal actions, and you can only perform 1 normal action per turn.

7. It says you can reload a water weapon by using an action while standing next to water. How
does this work? Do you just take 3 more water ammo tokens? What if there aren't any left? What
happens to the ones already on the board? Do they just stay there?

7: If you have a water weapon, you can reload it. You have to complete the number of ammunition
that your weapon has. For example, if you have a water gun with one ammunition, you can reload
the gun with 3 ammunition. If you have a used wet towel for example, you can reload it with
1water ammunition. The ammunition number depends on the weapon that you are going to reload.
If you walk into a square with a fallen ammunition, you can take it from the floor (except banana if
you are not Flamel).

8. Does reloading a water weapon using boiling water, poison or mucus have any different effect?

8: Yes, but they are normally narrative explains. For the poison water, go to page 17, poison
potions. Mucus is +1 damage if the roll is successful (1 or more impacts in the dice).

9. It indicates that when you attack, you hit all enemies in the area of effect. So for example the
Banana Hammer hits all enemies in a 3 square row in front of you. Do you make a seperate attack
roll for each enemy? or do you make one roll that affects all of them?

9: Normal action, Attack (page 21), “The player will roll the dice for each enemy in range. After the
attack, a player must defend each enemy”.

10. What about for spells? Do you make a separate roll for each enemy affected by a spell? or one
roll that affects them all?

10: Crystal actions, Attack with a spell (page 22), “The wizard may make AN ATTACK on one or
more enemies...”
If you attack with spells you have to roll dice only one time, and apply the same effect to all the
enemies in range.

11. When rolling to defend, does each shield rolled prevent one damage? or prevent one impact?

11: The shield prevents damage.

12. Items are described as being one handed or two handed. But it also says you can carry any
number of items. What does one handed and two handed actually do? Can I use a two handed
weapon to attack and then change to a one handed weapon and shield when defending? Can you
use two shields and no weapons when defending?

12: As a free action, you can change your equipment as you want. Yes, you can use your weapons
as you want, respecting the hands.

13. The bow's enhancement is "all tile". Does that mean when you attack it hits every enemy on
the tile? On just one enemy anywhere on the tile?

13: If you have the bow, you have 3 arrows. You can use only 1 arrow in an attack, so you have to
choose which enemy you are going to reach (anywhere in the tile) with your arrow.
14. For ranged weapons that affect "all tile" where does the ammo token land?

14: The token lands where the enemy you have chosen to attack is located.

15: Swatter Item: What does the special rule mean? Does it mean that moving through a water
space gives it +1 dice for that turn? Or is the bonus permanent? Or is it only if you make an attack
while standing on water?

15: Only +1 damage if the roll is successful, in that turn.

16: Terry The Fairy (Weapon): Does it make its own separate attack when you attack with another
weapon?
Does the -2 defence apply against your normal attack? Against Terry's attack? or against both?

16: Yes. Against Terry attack

17. Pet Toy: What does "All the 4 pets shall be in play" mean? Does it mean that it can only be
used if all 4 pets are in play? or does it cause all 4 pets to be placed into play? The symbol is below
the enhanced sybols so does it only apply when enhanced?
When all the pets attack, do they make 1 attack each using their normal attack dice? are they
combined into one attack?

17: “All the 4 pets shall be in play” Obviously the 4 pets have to be in play at that moment. They
attack altogether (1 attack), using the 4 pet toy dice. Read well please.

18. When pets attack is it only against adjacent enemies? The rules say "in a straight line" which
could imply a ranged attack.

18: Only melee.

19: Shield (item): It's Protection says "+1 defense if successful dice rolling". This doesn't really
make sense.
Is it +1 defense dice? +1 shield per shield rolled on the dice? or +1 shield per dice that rolls
shields? or +1 shield to the total if any shields are rolled?

19: + 1 defense if successful dice rolling make sense. +1 shield to the total if any shields are
rolled. If you roll 1 shield, add +1. If you roll 2 shields, add +1. If you roll 3 shields, add +1. Is not
complicated.

20: Pet Accessories: When do they provide the defence bonus? While equiped? Constantly while in
your inventory?

20: When they are equipped in your pet.

21: Grilitch (Spell): Says that if enemies survive, they are knocked out... what does that mean?
Knocked out isn't explained anywhere.

21: It means that if any enemy survives your attack, they are KO in the next turn, and they do
nothing (because they are KO). They will KO until another turn more.

22: Cornelius (Spell): I think I understand this one, does it mean that if it deals at least 1 damage,
the player chooses one enemy to be the target of all other enemies in the enemy phase?

22: Yes.

23: Monsters: Some are listed as only affected by certain types of weapon: does that mean that
other weapons can't hurt them at all?

23: Obviously not.

24: Is there any way to get crystals other than killing enemies?

24: Only in the narrative way or with Oracle rewards.

25: Do enemy ranged attacks hit every wizard along their attack range like when players attack?

25: Yes.

26: Gobble (enemy): "When only 2 gobbles are in play, +1 defence if successful" What does this
mean? Is it 1 extra sheild per shield rolled? One extra per dice that rolls shields? 1 extra total if
any shields are rolled?
Does it just mean +1 defence dice while only 2 gobbles in play? (what does the "if successful" part
mean?)

26: When there are 2 gobbles (only 2), they defend with +1 shield when their defense is successful
(Same explanation like 19 answer).

27: Spirit (Boss): Affected by spells only? What if players run out of crystals in the middle of the
fight?

27: You lose the mission.

28: On the skill card shown on page 31, Row 2, card 1: What does "NORMAL Acc./CRYSTALS Acc."
mean?

28: Normal actions / Crystal actions.

29: On the skill card shown on page 31, Row 2, card 4: Does the free action happen before or after
the enemy attack? If it happens before and it kills the enemy, does the enemy attack still happen?

29: Only after the enemy attack. Its a reaction attack skill.
30: The first mission book describe the players as being Bananelf, Grilitch, Cornelius, and Durlo.
The second mission book describes them as using the other 4 wizards. Often it describes things
happening to specific wizards. Does that mean you have to use those 4? Or can you mix them?
What happens if you have less than 4 players and the mission mentions a wizard that's not in play?

30: The story says what wizards you have to use. The game is always played with 4 characters. If
you are 3 players, one of you must use 2 characters.

1. a wizard riding his pet (p.11) defends with 2 dice (1 dice for the reduced wizard, 1 for the pet)
and thus will not receive an extra dice for having his pet on the same space/square to defend
(p.25). We assume the pet is not attacked by enemies separately when the wizard is riding it?

2. a wizard riding another pet defends with 1 dice, rest same as remark and question 1

3. a wizard gets an extra dice for attack and defense (p.16) if its pet is on the same space or
adjacent, a pet gets an extra dice for attack only (p.25). We suggest for defense as well to be
consistent

4. is a pet also attacked if on a wizard space? If yes, then it doesn't really matter if your pet is on
an adjacent space or on the same space, because enemies attack diagonally as well. Thematically
we would suggest no as an answer

5. when a pet loses all life points after an attack, we suggest the equipped accessory and/or other
inventory goes back to its wizard/owner

6. why is an equipped accessory de-equipped and does it go back to its owning wizard after use by
a pet (p.21)?

7. p. 14 states an extra defense dice for certain objects, whereas p.27/28 state +1 defense if
succesful. We would suggest to follow p.27/28 to be consistent

8. in a play through video we noticed no spawn card in the first turn. Is that correct?

9. p. 14 one or two handed weapons and question 12 earlier in this thread: should be added to
rulebook

10. buying some spells when crystals have no color (light grey) and the potion recipes with orange
crystals (darker/amber grey): make a remark somewhere in rulebook/faq sheet

11. can a pet be in a room (store) p.17?

12. can a wizard buy multiple potions in 1 turn?

13. is poison potion discarded after its effect in water? is poison potion picked up when reloading a
water weapon from poisoned water?

14. to have consistency between weapon and spell attacks and to avoid an overload of dice rolling
which hinders the game flow, we suggest to have 1 attack roll for weapons and for enemies and
individual defense rolls for defending characters (wizars, pets and enemies)

15. can the pets Murray and Brink be invoked during any game by any wizard for no crystal cost?

16. commanding a pet to attack (p.21): it attacks only 1 enemy and not 1 space. What type of
attack is it: all kinds according to its character card and thus can attack all enemies or only normal
attack and thus can attack only specific enemies? Thematically we would say only normal attack.

17. p. 23 and mission 1: a wizard in reduced size in water is invisible for enemies and thus also for
the spittle in the cave and thus cannot be attacked by

18. enemy movement action (p.24): we assume the tekst "straight line or diagonal" should be
"straight line and diagonal". An enemy searches it's way to reach the threatened wizard.

19. how to keep track of the wizard skills (p.26) for the next game?

20. does bubble gum work for all enemies on a single space?

21. one of the event cards is volcano eruption, destroying all spittle. What happens to the spittle in
mission 1 if spawned but not yet defeated?
