Preamble Registration Fee

Infrastructure development is a vital part in the growth of any
country. Indian economy is growing at a rate between 7 and 8%
since 2001. In India, which is standing second in population, the
requirement for infrastructural facilities is increasing
rapidly.Building construction in India is estimated to grow at a
rate of 6.6% per year. Construction industry, the second largest
industry of the nation, is highly challenged to meet the growing
demands. The need for sustainable construction and innovation in
building materials has gained momentum globally. Similarly, in
India, the environmental and ecological parameters are gaining
attention in the recent years. The current practice of mining,
manufacturing and transporting of materials are energy intense
and greatly contribute to the greenhouse gases. The great floods of
Kerala, 2018 are the fresh evidence of the consequences.
In this background, teaching and research in the realm of
sustainability and advanced building technologies is the need of
the hour. The programme aims to present the state of art
techniques in the current context. In this time of rebuilding and
transformation, a Faculty Development Program on “Sustainable
Building Technologies and Environment” will be pivotal to the
research community and thus to the society.
Topics to be covered
The training programme will cover the following topics:

Experts from NITC, IIT's, IISc and other Invited experts from
Academic/Research Institutions/Industries will be delivering
lectures. The speakers include Prof. Manu Santhanam
(IIT Madras), Prof. M.D. Subhash Chandran (IISC Bangalore),
Ar. Subhasbasu (IISC Bangalore)

Faculty members from various AICTE approved Engineering
Colleges/Institutions can apply.
Working professionals and practicing engineers from various
Research Organizations and Industries, and Research scholars
can also apply.

About Department of Architecture and Planning
The Department of Architecture and Planning is committed to
provide an academically strong platform for those aspire to
make a good career and enduring impression in the field of
Architecture and Urban Planning.
The educational program in Architecture throughout the world
shares a common view of the future of mankind. The
Department of Architecture and Planning strives to reach these
goals by offering the Undergraduate (5 Year B.Arch.) Degree
Program in Architecture. The Post Graduate Degree (2 Year M.
Plan) Program in Urban Planning aims to produce generalist
planning professionals of international quality who can adapt to
any challenging planning situation with superior capability to
use geo-informatics which includes GIS, remote sensing, related
models and quantitative methods in urban, regional and
environmental planning. A number of students are pursuing
research in various fields.
The Department of Architecture and Planning has been ranked
FIFTH in India among the Best Schools of Architecture by the
OUTLOOK Survey This is the FOURTH time in a row (from
2014 onwards) the Department is maintaining its position in the
TOP TEN Schools in India. The Department was ranked SIXTH
in the year 2016 and 2015.
About Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest
Departments in this Institute. It was established at the inception
stage of the Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC),
which was the forerunner to the present National Institute of
Technology, Calicut (NITC) in 1961. Over the years, the
Department has grown many times in different spheres of
activities. At present, the Department offers an undergraduate
programme in Civil Engineering leading to the BTech degree and
five post graduate programmes - one each in Structural
Engineering, Traffic and Transportation Planning, Offshore
Structures, Environmental Geotechnologyand Water Resources
Engineering.
In addition to the above, there are a number of students pursuing
research at the Department in various fields of Civil Engineering
leading to PhD. The Department is a recognized QIP centre of the
AICTE for both MTech and PhD programmes. The Department
is also actively engaged in R&D, testing and consultancy
activities. A number of R&D projects sponsored by various
departments and organisations including the Ministry of Human
Resources Development (MHRD) and the Department of
Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, AICTE,
ADRB, NPOL, Coir Board, and the Kerala State Council for
Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) have been
completed and many are presently in progress.

About NIT Calicut
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), is fully
