Time Motivation and Introduction:
Align these with the
segment where they will
Firstly the teacher will ask the students to tell them what type of bins they
be introduced.
have at their house and when they say rubbish and recycling pull out to bins
with it written on it and then give each group a bag of rubbish and get them to
9:00
sort through it all and put it in the respective bins.
Once that has been done, pull out certain items and ask why it has been put
in that bin then ask the entire class whether it is right or wrong. Explain facts
like bottles need to be washed out and only the bottle part can go in the bin,
while the cap cannot.
Once you have talked through this with the class, play the video on recycling
9:10 and get them to dot down all the facts they get in the video on the second
viewing. The first time should be for them to take in. Once they have dotted
down all of the points, they are to get back in their groups and create a mind
map about everything they know about recycling. They have worked in these
groups before so should know their roles and how to work within the group.
Once they have completed this, they will come out to the front of the class and
explain the key points to the classroom. Teacher to collect the dot points to
assess.
While the class are doing the first task, place around the classroom on each
group a bag full of different household items (in the bag will contain toilet rolls,
9:25 cardboard boxes, plastic water bottles, plastic bags) and again in their groups
they have to think of different ideas that they can use these items for instead
of just throwing them away. Give them time to brainstorm again and write
down what they think they could use and then share with the class the best
idea for each item.
Once they have brainstormed the items, bring up on the screen the design
brief and start explaining it to them and show what they will be doing. Let the
students ask questions and query the task and hold up and example that you
9:35 have made for the student. Get them into their book begin drawing the first
design and start listing down the items they may use.
Ask the student to explain some of the different items that they have decided
to use and what it is for.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
- Brainstorm of what is recycling and the dot points.
- The different uses for the materials
- The design they have created.
