1. STARTING UP
The application is packaged in the DVD/USB flash drive. It would contain a folder with a setup file
for the application. In case the application does not run automatically, the user must run the setup by
double clicking on it.

This will initiate the installation process for the application. The process would include running a
background check for the availability of flash player and the .NET framework on user’s system. If
these are not available, the installation process would also include initiating the installation of the
same. Once the pre-requisites for running the application are confirmed, the application will be
launched.

The screen which comes up, as the application launches, is shown below. The login screen is as
below:

The user must click on the help button provided on the top right corner. This will open the user
manual for reference. Minimize and close buttons have their usual purposes.

The user can enter the login details; a valid user id and password, if these have already been created.
In case, the user has logged in for the first time, he/she needs to register himself/herself and create the
user id and password.

To register, the user needs to click on ‘Create new user’.

2. NEW USER
The user clicks on ‘Create new user’. The following screen with ‘Personal Details Form’ comes up.
The user needs to fill the details as necessary and click on ‘Submit’ to register. Since all the fields are
mandatory, the user needs to fill them all.

After entering the details in the form, the user must click on ‘Submit’. If all the details have been
entered, the user will be created successfully by the application, after accepting the license agreement
terms. Consequently, a message will be displayed, as shown below.

The user must click on ‘OK’. This will direct the user to the login page of the application, where the
recently created User ID and password will be used to login.

3. USER LOGIN
The login screen which comes up is shown below. The user must enter the ID and password details to
login.

After entering the details, the user must click on ‘Login’. With this, the user is ready to take
the training ECDIS FMD-3100 FMD-3200/3300 and start reading the tutorials.

4. ECDIS FMD – 3x00 CBT


Once the user has logged into the application, he/she can proceed with the tutorials. In order
to aid sequential learning, the user is required to go through every tutorial completely, at least
the first time. Once the user has gone through a tutorial till the end and has clicked on ‘Close’
button, the next tutorial will be unlocked. For every section/tutorial that has been unlocked,
there appears a green indication adjacent to the same.

The text box is movable and can be minimized too. The text box can be moved by clicking and
dragging it to the desired location. To minimize the text box, the user can click on the minimize
button provided on the top right corner of the text box.

The minimized text box is shown in the image below.

The text box can be restored by clicking on ‘Restore Up’ button located on the top right corner of the
minimized text box.

5. UNDERSTANDING THE USER INTERFACE

The ECDIS FMD-3x00CBT interface presents the tutorials in the form of a tree structure on the left
hand side. In case of lower resolution, the tree structure will be dock-able. The tree structure will be
then available on mouse hover on left side.

5.1. TUTORIAL
A tutorial can be played by clicking on the corresponding name in the tree structure.

‘EXIT’ button ‘Pause’ button

The user can see the tree structure of the contents of training, including the groups; with each group
containing a number of chapters, each chapter containing a number of sections and each section
having various contents. Each content is a topic, corresponding to which there is a tutorial which can
be played by the user.

When the tutorial is being played, the user sees a text box, which contains a textual description
regarding the tutorial. Also, in order to navigate through the tutorial, certain buttons are provided. The
controls available are as follows:

 ‘Play’ button: This button is used to play the current animation.


 ‘Replay’ button: This button is used to replay the tutorial from start.
 ‘Previous’ button: This button is used to go to the previous animation in the tutorial.
 ‘Next’ button: This button is used to go to the next animation in the tutorial.

 ‘Close’ button: This button is available only when the user reaches at the end of the tutorial. It
is used to close the tutorial and consequently unlock the next tutorial.
 ‘Minimize’ button: This button is used to minimize the text box.

5.2. HELP
To aid the training course, the user has been provided with the Help button. This button is available
on the top right corner of the application and is being denoted by a question mark - ‘?’ (Refer image
below). The user can click on this button any time during the training.

Clicking on this button will present the screen as shown below. Besides the user manual, there are
other documents which are available during the training.

Clicking on ‘Documents available during training’ will open another window, as shown below. This
is the list of documents available. To open a document, the user must click on the same.

To open the user manual for the training application, the user must click on ‘ECDIS FMD-3x00CBT
User Manual’.

‘Close’ and ‘Back’ buttons are provided on the windows to close and go back to the previous screen,
respectively.

5.3. MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST


In order to complete the training, the user needs to answer the questions in the MCT correctly. MCT
will be available once the user has completed all the tutorials.

5.4. VALIDATION AND CERTIFICATION


After the user has passed the assessment test for the course, he/she needs to proceed with issuance of
the certificate. To get the certificate issued valid license key needs to be entered in the system.
Consequently, the user must click on ‘Validation and Certification’ available in the tree structure. The
following screen is visible.

The user must enter the license key available for the course. To get the key validated, the user must
click on ‘Go’. If the key is valid, a new window opens, where the ship owner details need to be added.

Confirm the details by clicking on ‘Yes’ and proceed.

After validating the key and adding the ship owner, the user must download a training details file.
This file can be downloaded by clicking on the ‘Download File’ button available. The user can save
the file in the desired location and then send it to the training administrator for authentication of the
license key and hence, generating the training certificate.

Clicking on the ‘Email’ button will open the email client (if configured). The downloaded training
details file should be attached to the same and e-mailed to the administrator. Emailing the training
details file to the training administrator will complete the training formalities on the user’s part.

5.5. PAUSE
This button has been provided to pause or freeze the application. Clicking on this button will pause a
running animation, disable any other control on the tutorial and will not allow any selection from the
tree structure.

5.6. EXIT
To exit the application, the user can click on this button.

6. FMD CBT DIAGNOSTIC TOOL

In case the user encounters a problem while running the training application and cannot proceed
further, it is advised to use the FMD CBT Diagnostic Tool. This tool enables the user to generate a
report with the details of the training being taken.

The user can run the application following the steps as mentioned below:

1. The user must run the application by double clicking on ‘FMDCBTDiagnosticTool.exe’ available
in the Diagnostic Tool folder.

2. This will initiate the application and display the following window.

The user must enter the ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’ and click on ‘Diagnose’. This will generate a
report with training session details.

3. After the report has been generated, it needs to be sent to the administrator for analysis.

This will be emailed to the administrator once the user clicks on ‘Send Report’ and confirms to send
an email. In case, the user doesn’t wish to proceed, he may click on ‘Cancel’.

4. A message will be displayed after the email has been sent successfully.

The user needs to click on ‘Ok’ to proceed.

5. The user must click on ‘Close’ to close the window.
