2. GENERAL DETAILS
MINI-V/PCR vertical laminar flow cabinets are equipped with a high frequency centrifugal
fan.
The outside cabinet is made of stainless steel sheet, lacquered and oven dried, of functional
design and optimum dimensions.
Outside air taken in (1) passes through a pre-filter (2), is sucked by a fan (3), impelled
towards a plenum, passed through a HEPA absolute filter and, as laminar flow enters the
work area, reaches Class 100 according to us Fed. Std. 209 D; then it is forced out by it's
high pressure (7) Fig.l.
This vertical laminar flow cabinet is suitable for dealing with samples or products which
involve the need for sterile air conditions according to Class 100 in the work area, but where
neither operator nor environmental protection is necessary. For principle see Diagram in
Fig.l.
MINI-V_I_rev0507US Page 4
WARNING
Under no circumstances can it work with products or samples, which are biologically pathogenic
or liable to affect the operator or environment in any way whatsoever.

2.4. CERTIFICATION
Quality control and certification with results of tests performed according to norms.
Individual certificate inside each cabinet.
3- TRANSPORT
Each cabinet is packed individually and suitably protected against damage during transport.
This Manual and individual control certificate for each individual cabinet is supplied as part of
the consignment.
4. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure correct vertical laminar flow cabinet start-up, the following instructions should be
followed step by step.
4.1. PLACEMENT
Special care must be taken when unpacking the microprocessor screen.
Place in an area away from doors, windows and air currents from air conditioners and where
there is little movement caused by people, to avoid draughts.
The cabinet must be perfectly steady on its table or bench to prevent vibration.
To prevent overheating the work area, it is advisable to keep room temperature within the
limits of work comfort.
feTElSTAR MINI-V_I_rev0507US Page 6
Before working for the first time, start the cabinet and let it run for about 6 hours to purge
out the filters.
New filters have a characteristic smell, which usually disappears in a short time.
The cabinet is supplied with a single phase fan and connecting cable with European (or other
as specified) plug.
The general switch is at the top of the cabinet, on the right seen from front, by the electric
cable.
WARNING
Before connecting the cabinet, check that the supply source coincides with that shown
on the specification plate.
The installation connected must comply with the safety requirements of the country
where it is found.
4.4. START-UP
Once the previous points have been covered, start the vertical laminar flow cabinet by
pressing button (Fig. 2 pos. 1) and make sure the suction area (Fig. 1. pos.l) is free.
WARNING
If this accessory is used, the usual precautions for these lamps must be taken. It is to
be used only for sterilizing material outside before it enters the cabinet or, all the
material used during the previous PCR to be re-used. In this way, the lamp is a
supplement for work before it is done in the cabinet, and must be off when the
operator is facing the table or working at it. Direct UV radiated rays are reflected on
the polished metal parts and can seriously affect the operator's eyes.
MINI-V_I_rev0507US Page 7
5. USER'S INSTRUCTIONS
Even if the work area is under clean sterile laminar flow, that surrounding the cabinet can
be contaminated. The sources of contamination should be known so that they can be
avoided when inserting arms, material etc.
All the material necessary for work must be free of particles and cleaned before it enters.
Materials like: paper, wood, cardboard, pencils, erasing rubbers, etc., should not be inserted
as they all shed large amounts of particles.
Both before and after work, it is advisable to wash arms, hands and finger nails with
germicide soap. Personnel should avoid touching their mouths and eyes.
Long sleeved white coats are advised with tight cuffs, and, for special work, protecting
gloves, (or alternatively, over-sleeves). Both the white coats and the over-sleeves must be
made of materials least likely to shed fibre and particles.
The cabinet should be started 10 minutes before work begins. This sweeps the work area
and material inserted of particles.
If pipettes are used, they should be mechanic suction type; suction by mouth must never
be used as it is easy to inhale aerosols so caused.
When platinum handles must be used, electric incinerators or, better still, disposable single-
use handles are advised.
If the nature of the work to be done involves using a gas flame from a Bunsen (or similar)
burner, the button opening constant pressure type is advised. It must be pointed out that a
constant flame burner creates a considerable amount of turbulence. Remember that too
large a flame can burn the absolute filters.
Shadows and turbulence produced by objects, equipment and material in the work area,
must be taken into account before work begins to assess their possible effect. It should be
remembered that air flow laminarity is only recovered at a distance of up of 2.5 times the
diameter of the object causing the obstruction.
If flasks or tubes are used, these should, preferably, be screw cap rather than cotton
stopped, as the latter sheds large amounts of particles.
As soon as the work finishes, all the disposable products, such as: handles, Petri plates,
etc., as well as means of culture, samples, tubes, flasks and the like, are to be taken out of
the cabinet and emptied into impermeable bags, which can be sterilized if necessary.
During work in the cabinet and cleaning, care must be taken not to damage the HEPA filters
by knocking, squirting liquid at or splashing it.

6. MAINTENANCE
WARNING
Before embarking on any maintenance or cabinet dismounting work, switch cabinet off from
source.
As a general rule, technical specialists should make an annual check that all cabinet components
function correctly.
Maintenance Table
At the end of this Manual, there is a table to use to draw up a maintenance history.
6.3. PRE-FILTER
In the air suction of the vertical laminar flow sterile cabinet, there is a pre-filter (Fig.l pos. 2).
Every 500 hours it should be cleaned or vacuum cleaned and every 1,000 hours replaced.
WARNING
Under no circumstances must the cabinet be started without correctly installed pre-filter, as this
will cause rapid silting up of the HEPA filter.
After this period, the flow of impelled air decreases due to greater loss of filter load since
filtering is mechanical; but this does not mean any loss of filtering efficiency.
feTElSTAR MINI-V_I_rev0507US Page 12
WARNING
In order to ensure correct filter installation and adjustment, and also absence of leaks, filter
replacement must be a matter for specialist technical personnel supplied with the necessary
control instruments: anemometer, leak detector, aerosol generator, particle counter etc.
Telstar Industrial S.L representatives and distributors have a qualified technical team with the
most up-to-date, health protecting control equipment to carry out periodic controls with
guaranteed safety and also change filters according to the Norms.

7. TROUBLESHOOTING
Possible cause: Absolute filter perforated; it has come away from its frame; sealing joint
between filter and cabinet base ineffective.
Solution: A D.O.P. leak test is carried out by a specialist technician to discover causes of
contamination and absolute filter is replaced by him, if necessary.
If contamination continues after the new absolute filter is installed and fresh airtightness
(D.O.P) tests are carried out, the user should start looking into correct application of work
procedures, as there may be contamination from an outside source, through work tools,
hands or the samples.
To disinfect, these cloths will be used slightly dampened with a disinfectant solution, which will
not affect the paint lacquer or the stainless steel.
