Purpose: To understand School system in South Korea that focus on gender

Backgrounds : Over the past few decades, South Korea has made remarkable
achievements in education despite many obstacles. Education, in turn, has played an
important role in Korea’s achieving both economic development and political democracy.

Education has contributed to the growth of Korea's democratic government. It has

produced hardworking, skilled employees who have brought about an economic miracle
within a single generation. It has reaffirmed traditional values while maintaining its
commitment to modernization, citizenship, and global involvement. The ambitious and
comprehensive reform plans developed in 1995 by the Ministry of Education still appear to
enjoy widespread public and professional support. A broad spectrum of the society
recognizes the need for lifelong learning as a precept for social and economic improvement.

Indonesia as a developing country with a historical background to independence and an

economic crisis should be able to imitate the footprint of the Korean State in advancing its
country, especially in the field of education.

For approximately 3 months I will be at Incheon Daegun High School. When I first learned
the information about this school, I was a little surprised because this was a school for boys.
Where this kind of school forms are almost never found in Indonesia. So, the question
arises whether this is an educational strategy in South Korea to achieve maximum results
in education or if there are other things behind it.

Single-sex education, also known as single-gender education, is the practice of conducting

education with male and female students attending separate classes, perhaps in separate
buildings or schools. The practice was common before the 20th century, particularly in
secondary and higher education. It is very interesting to learn and to know more why in
here they are practicing this kind system of education.

It is my reason find out more about the education system in South Korea that is
distinguished by sex. In connection with the above, then in the period of 3 months I want
to understand more about the gender-based education system.

Methods :

- Observation :
Observing school conditions and environment and observing student activities
while at Incheon Daegun High School in 3 months (Include Photo & Video Taking)
- Questionnaire:
Making questionnaire forms related to the purpose of the observation distributed to
approximately 200 students to collect data and become observational material.
- Interviewing:
Interviewing related schools who understand the education / curriculum / school
activities system such as vice principals, school staff, homeroom teachers or subject
teachers.
- Literatures:
Get written information both from media books, newspapers and articles from the
internet.

Result: The paper is completed with photographs and questionnaire / interview data
