Notice
Product HHP Notice No. 14-79
Model All variants of S5 & Batteries Notice Date 31st July ’14
Subject How to identify Non original Galaxy S5 Device & Battery
Scope Subsidiary ( Yes ) ASC ( Yes ) Customer ( No )

1. Purpose
- To inform all ASC’s of information regarding the identification of NON original
Galaxy S5 devices and batteries* (i.e. Not of Samsung Origin or "Fake").

2. Background
- Possible PL (Product Liability) cases have been known to arise due to the use of
Non original Galaxy S5 and batteries * (i.e. Not of Samsung Origin or "Fake").
- All Service engineers should be fully aware of the following information to help
identify whether or not Galaxy S5 or battery is a Samsung Original or "Fake" as
shown in section 4. Instruction below:

3. Service Policy

Case 1: If the Galaxy S5 device returned to service centre for repair is identified during
the test and service process by a Technician as a Non Original device (i.e. Not of
Samsung Origin or "Fake").

It should be reassembled and returned to the customer. No attempt should be made to

repair or service the device in anyway other than reassembly where required for return.

The customer should be advised that:

"The device returned has been identified as not of Samsung origin and it is not possible
to service this device. As a result of our findings we are returning your equipment to you."*

(*example response text)

Published By [Global CS Team in HQ]

Case 2: If the Galaxy S5 device returned to service centre for repair is identified during
the test and service process by a Technician as a Original device (i.e. It is of Samsung
Origin and is not a Fake), however the accessories are identified as being Non Original
parts (i.e. Not of Samsung Origin or "Fake").

If the Battery and/or Charger* (*also known as "TA" / Travel Adaptor - See Appendix 1
for notes regarding advice for TA inspection)) are identified as non Samsung origin
parts then these should be treated as Out Of Warranty and the customer advised accordingly.

In addition, where the Galaxy S5 device has a fault symptom caused by the use of Non
Samsung origin accessories then any repair action required for the Galaxy S5 should
also be classed as an Out of Warranty action and the customer advised accordingly:

"During the test and fault investigation of your returned equipment it has been
identified the fault to your Galaxy S5 device has been caused by the non Samsung origin
Battery /Charger returned with your device and any repair action required is no longer
covered by warranty"*

(*example response text)

The customer should then be quoted for the repair cost based on the cost of any parts
required for the Galaxy S5 and the replacement of Non Samsung origin accessories.

Please see the next section on the following page for advice on identifying Non
Samsung Origin Galaxy S5 and associated accessories.

(5) Fake Battery Cases

Note: Since the Fake Battery size can differ in size compared to an original battery,
it may not fit correctly into the device; see below referring to "Squashed" or "Floated"
scenarios as shown below table where the battery can appear either "deeper" in the
battery compartment or appear to protrude (or "stick out of") the battery compartment.

Note: There is NO PTC* (Protection Circuit) in the Fake Battery.

*PTC is used in conjunction with circuit on the Mobile device to help prevent blocks
over current or high temperature in case a fault developing.

Please Note: some of the below pictures are guidance for those situations where the
battery has sustained damage to the case and so permits inspection to this level of examination.
