Module 3 Self-Assessments
Prompt #1: Summarize your results and any particular “aha moments” that you may have had
when working through the “interests-based” assessments on the AzCIS website. What particular
career clusters stuck out to you? With respect to the interest profiler, how did your interests score
in the artistic / conventional / enterprising / investigative / realistic / social categories? How could
you use interests-based assessments to help move your career and your life forward? If you have
taken any other interests-based assessments in the past, please comment on those, and any relevant
connections to the AzCIS assessments.

While taking the Career Cluster Inventory and Interests Profiler it seemed that the questions being
asked were relatively simple. I have taken some assessments where I struggled to answer the question
because they were difficult to understand. While I was working through the interest-based question I
noticed that the questions were similar to one another just worded differently. I leaned very strongly
towards the questions that asked about dealing with people, organizations, or animals. After completing
the assessment I was not surprised that I scored the highest in Business Management and Administration.
My score was 11. Close second, scoring 10’s, hospitality and tourism and my aha moment was seeing my
score for Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security. Never would I have thought I would sore highly
on anything in that cluster. My end goal is to use my Organizational Leadership degree to pursue Human
Resource Management. I was definitely not surprised with my low score in the finance cluster or audio/
visual technology. I would 100% agree I am not savvy in that department.
With respect to the interest profiler my highest score was not shocking. I scored a 32 in the social
category but my “aha moment” was seeing that I scored a 30 in the investigative section! Comparing the
career cluster assessment and the interest profiler I’d say that my score match pretty similarly. Anything
to do with helping others in a time of need or helping someone achieve something really fulfills my
purpose. What shocked me about the Investigative tab is that it says I like to use problem solving
techniques and tend not to enjoy leading. I think that I do sometimes enjoy persuading others and stay
away from trying to figure out the facts and gory details. I scored lowest in the Enterprising category. I
am not someone who is interesting in opening/running my own company. I am also not an individual who
initiates ideas or jumps at problem solving big tasks. I think that has never been my forte.
I have never really taken any career-based assessments before so I cannot connect it to the AzCIS
assessments I took during this model but I have taken the Myer-Briggs assessment which indicated my
personality. I am a ESFJ personality type or “The Provider.” People with the ESFJ personality type are the
stereotypical extroverts. They are social butterflies, and their need to interact with others and make people
happy usually ends up making them popular. If I can compare the Myer-Briggs test to the career cluster
inventory or even the interest profiler my high scores reflect back to my personality type. I love to be
around people and find much happiness in helping others. How my assessments can help me in future
roles and careers is that I will use my talents to lead others. I want others to see me as a role model and
that I can strive in leadership positions because I have a deep connect to my employees/peers.
Prompt #2: Summarize your results and any particular “aha moments” that you may have had
when working through the “skills / work values-based” assessments through the AzCIS website.
What are your top skills? Are these the skills that you highlighted in your e-portfolio (from OGL 481
Pro-Seminar I)? Comment on any differences there, and how you might improve, or add to, the skills
section of your e-portfolio based on this new perspective. Also, be sure to comment on your Holland
Personality Types scores, and how your skills and interests compared in that regard. How could you
use skills-based assessments to help move your career and your life forward? If you have taken any
other skills-based assessments in the past, please comment on those, and any relevant connections to
the AzCIS assessments.
For the skills assessment and work values-based assessment I had a little bit of trouble trying to
get a feel for how to use the worksheet. After I was able to get that under my belt and print the skills sheet
out it was much easier to see which skills I prioritized and which ones I did not. It was so wonderful that
the skills were broken down into sub categories like social skills, personal skills, movement, perceptual,
technical, situational…etc. My top five skills are: Dependability, Social Perception, Assisting/caring,
Motor Coordination and speaking. Dependability is important to me because it means that I am seen as
reliable and responsible. I can be counted on getting the job done. I find social perception to be a very
important skill because I am aware of others around me and their needs/feelings. If you couldn’t tell from
my results to the first half of prompt #1, assisting and caring for others is a skill that I consider highly
important. Motor coordination is in my top 5 because you need to be able to move around and walk/talk.
Do more than one thing at a time. It would be difficult to not be able to do that. Finally, Speaking is in my
top 5 skills because how else can we find out about another individual? Speaking is having the ability to
convey information to others.
These skills are slightly different from what I had listed on my skills page during my OGL 481
course. I think that my top 5 skills reflect certain skills and knowledge that I used on my E-Portfolio.
Teamwork, Team Building, and Motivation are some things that I used on my portfolio. Assisting/caring
along with dependability can strongly tie into those. Behavioral Dynamics was another item that I used on
my E-Portfolio which I believe can be tied to social perception! OGL 220 taught me to embrace the
opportunity to gain additional insight on my perspectives, values, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Also, that while working with others that you can pick up on their emotions, thoughts, and values. This is
why I put social perception as one of my top 5 picks. I definitely believe that I can add my top 5 skills to
my Weebly portfolio.
In regards to my Holland Personality type, I think that they compare quiet true. My strongest
skills deal with socializing and helping others. My purpose is to connect with others while strengthening
my skills. Another assessment I would like to mention is my learning styles test. My highest score was
Tactile. I learn best through physical experience and I am a hands-on learner. Physical activity helps me
remember information and when it says doodling, eating snacks, and moving around frequently help me
concentrate! I have done all of those activities often while writing this discussion.I am someone who
loves to take notes and organizes with files/folders/tabs…etc.
I know that my top 5 skills were chosen because they are what I think I am the most talented at.
They are things that I consider my strengths. Referring back to the Module 3 readings from Harvard
Business Article about Managing Oneself, “the only way to discover your strengths is through feedback
analysis” (Drucker, 2007). The only reason that I know that those are my strong suits is because others
have told me. They have observed me and given me corrective criticism time and time again. I honed in
on my skills and used my peers feedback to go to the next level. “There are many different ways, both
structured and unstructured, to come to know oneself. These include reflection, meditation, asking for
feedback from others, psychotherapy, or just plain being self-aware.” (Harrington & Hall, 2007, pg. 16)

Prompt #3: Discuss your primary and secondary career anchors. Any surprises? Make some
connections between your current work / life and your scores on the career anchors assessment.
What was your lowest scoring career anchor? Comment on your perceptions about that (and the
career anchors instrument, in general).

My Motivation and Career Anchor Assessment my primary career anchor is: Sense of Service/
Dedication to a Cause and my secondary career anchor is: Autonomy/Independence. I scored a 74 in
my primary and a 66 in my secondary career anchor. After seeing all of my results for these assessments
during this module I was definitely not surprised when I scored so high sense of service/dedication to a
cause. Looking at the results following the exam I can agree that they are pretty spot on. Service can take
the form of providing comfort, entertainment, leisure, activities, and support. I enjoy this career anchor
because it allows me to work around others and help them directly. I am a manager at Starbucks Coffee
Company where I am in charge of 28 individuals. I help lead them in their job by achieving statistics/
targets, celebrating company goals, and they have become like family to me. I enjoy being a manger
because my peers see me as a role model and someone that they put their trust into. My secondary career
anchor is autonomy/independence. I take great pride in doing things my way and on my own time. I am
attracted to jobs that allow me to create my own pace, work on my own material, and am free of self-
reliance. It says that free-lance is a good way to head towards if you fall under this category. I wouldn’t
say I am interested in free-lance because I need more structure but I don’t mind the idea of potentially
working for myself.

My lowest score on the career anchor assessment was Entrepreneurial Creativity. It was a
whopping score of 22! I have little to no drive to start up my own company and I am definitely not
someone who likes to step outta my comfort zone to take risks. This anchor deals a lot with a “sink or
swim” mentality which is another reason I scored low. It is important to not confuse entrepreneurship
with the autonomy anchor. I am not worried about making a lot of my own money and patenting
something, I just enjoy working and creating things in my own space. I also like creating something to
give to someone else if its a means of getting something in return like my paycheck.

Prompt #4: With respect to additional self-assessment instruments that you included (at
least 3 from either past courses or taken from the Assessment Links list below), write
briefly about what you learned about yourself (cite the new assessments you took, and
briefly describe your findings, and how those findings relate to how you see yourself in the
world). Throughout your personal or professional life, what have been the most useful self-
assessments tools for you, and why?

The three assessments that I took from the links below and from a previous OGL course was the
Keirsey Assessment, DISC Personality Assessment, and the Career Assessment Test. All three of
these exams were easy to take and showed me that my assessments from the Motivation &
Career Anchor test along with the AzCIS test were neck-n-neck! Honestly, it is very reassuring to
know that I score so highly in social situations and guidance. The Keirsey assessment showed
that I am in the Guardian tab of personalities. Specifically, Providers. Providers take it upon
themselves to insure the health and welfare of those in their care, but they are also the most sociable of
all the Guardians, and thus are the great nurturers of social institutions such as schools, churches,
social clubs, and civic groups. Providers are very likely more than ten percent of the population, and
this is fortunate for the rest of us, because friendly social service is a key to their nature. Wherever they
go, Providers happily give their time and energy to make sure that the needs of others are met, and that
social functions are a success. The DISC Personality Test gave me a pie chart with certain percentages:
41% Influence, 36% Steadiness, 17% Compliance, 7% Dominate. I think it is no surprise that influence
was my top rated model. These assessments tell me that I am approachable and very
understanding. I tend to be optimistic in most situations and it encourages me to look at the best
in others. I am a good listener and offers constructive advice rather than imposing my own
values/ideas on others. It is important to me that I maintain relationships with others.

Prompt #5: Post e-portfolio link for review making sure it can be accessed freely or you may not receive
