EQ: How is ocean pollution affecting the health of this invaluable resource?

Three Points to Prove:

#1: Plastic affects the ocean.
#2: Oil pollution harms the ocean.
#3: Industrial pollution devistates ocean health.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Point that this Source/Information Proves: #3: Industrial pollution devistates ocean health.

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the designated Point to Prove):

“Nonpoint source pollution not only affects ecosystems; it can also have harmful effects on the economy.
U.S. Coastal and marine waters support 28.3 million jobs, generate $54 billion in goods and services
through activities like shipping, boating, and tourism, and contribute $30 billion to the U.S. economy
through recreational fishing alone (Leeworthy, 2000).”

“The population in many coastal communities is also increasing at a rapid rate, and the value of
waterfront property often relies on environmental and aquatic conditions.”

“Excess nonpoint source pollution impacts the overall quality of life, and subsequently can drive property
values down. If nonpoint source pollution continues to plague the waters surrounding coastal
communities, their economies and social conditions may rapidly deteriorate.”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):

This source talks about the effects of pollution and how it occurs. Runoff is the main source of pollution
in the sense of nonpoint source pollution. When water or snow melts and travels through the ground it
picks up and pollutants that exist in the ground. And from there it travels out to sea. The pollution in the
ocean does not only have an effect on the life in living in the ocean, but it also raises a huge economic
problem. The ocean produces over 28 million jobs in the U.S. and generates more than 54 billion dollars.

The economy can also be affected by property value. Coastal properties rely on the ocean to be clean,
with the ocean increasingly becoming more polluted, the property value will decrease. Most of every
nation’s biggest cities are close to coastal areas. If the ocean creates a poor environment for living due to
pollution, nations around the world could see huge economic downfalls.

Pollution, Nonpoint Source, NOS Education Offering.” NOAA's National Ocean Service Education, 19

I am assuming that this is a reputable and reliable article because “NOAA” or the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration is a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
