Students will:
Learning  Be able to read and record clock times to the hour and identity
Objectives activities for different times.
What do you want your
students to learn?  Understand and be able to describe the difference between A.M.
and P.M.
 Evaluate a worksheet that the students will work on in class to see
Assessment if they understand the material taught
How will you know your
students have learned?  Monitor students during activity and ask them questions to ensure
that they are understanding the material
 Individual analog clocks with moveable hands
 Individual whiteboards and markers
Materials  Teaching Clock with moveable hands to illustrate specific times for
What resources will you students
need?
 SmartBoard to draw timeline and digital clock example on
 Worksheets
 Dice

 Ask class if they know the difference between A.M. and P.M.
 Use the teaching clock to explain the aspects of an analog clock
Introduction (hour hand, minute hand, numbers, etc.)
 Use SmartBoard to explain the aspects of a digital clock (hour,
colon, minutes, A.M., P.M.)

 Get students to show what time should show on the analog clock
or digital clock (via whiteboards) for each activity using individual
analog clocks and then show each time with the teaching clock
 Assess how students are doing by having them hold up their
analog clock or whiteboard to ensure that they are putting down
the correct time
 Hand out worksheets, students each have individual worksheets
but can work with others in tribe
 Worksheet has analog clocks without the hands. Have students
roll dice, add up the numbers, and write down the time on the
clock. Have the students write down the digital time beside the
Closure clock.
 Assess how well they understand time via these worksheets
 Before wrap-up, test knowledge, maybe make them go one step
further and ask them to determine a time on the teaching analog
clock but make the time have a half hour (ex. 9:30) and have them
write it down digitally on their individual whiteboards
