Electric drive in place of turbine drive to run CO2 compressor

Present status - Presently Steam generated from ammonia plants are used to drive steam turbine
Urea plant for Co2 compression .

Improvement - Presently BHEL turbine requires significant cost input in form of maintenance &
spares. Every ATR overhauling services and spares procurement for BHEL equipment costs us around
12-15 lakhs.

Tangible benefit- Benefits can be grouped into two parts-

1. Energy is proportional to volume. Heat loss is proportional to surface area. When you shrink
a turbine, the ratio of A/V increases and the heat losses get worse. Thus the energy output
decreases.
Therefore it is that all the steam may be utilized in same place to generate power .
