Acknowledgement
The success of this project would not have been possible without a number of persons. I would
like to thank God for giving me the strength, knowledge and understanding to complete this
SBA. Thanks to our parents who supported me financially and emotionally and last but certainly
not least a big thank you to my teacher, Miss Davis for her continuous guidance throughout this
project. I express my appreciation to everyone as they contributed immensely to the
accomplishment of this project. Once again thank you all!!
PROJECT TITLE
TOPIC: what is the best geometric shape for a football goal?

SUB-TOPIC: An investigation to determine the best geometric shape for a football

goal.
Introduction
Mathematics can be seen everywhere in society, one aspect of mathematics that is very common
is geometry. Geometric shapes are very popular in the sporting arena especially football. The
researchers will carry out an investigation to determine the best geometric shape for a football
goal.
The three shapes that will be included in this investigation are circle, triangle and a rectangle, the
area of all three shapes will be fixed at 7.9. This is to ensure that there is disparity among the
shapes.
A total of six students will be select from a class where each student will have (10) ten chances
to score goal in each shapes to determine which shape yield the best option.
Data collection

The researcher will fixed the dimension of the perimeter of the rectangular football goal and use
it for the triangle and circular goals, the circle and triangular goal will be create to carry out the
experiment.

Length= 7.32
Width=2.44
Perimeter=2L +2W
Perimeter: 7.32+7.32+2.44+2.44
= 19.52M

Perimeter= 2πr
2πr= 19.52

Π= 22/7
2×22÷7×r = 19.52
44r÷7 = 19.52÷1
44r÷44 = 136.64÷44
R =3.11
D = 6.22

Perimeter of equilateral triangle

P = 3a
19.52÷3 = 3a÷3
6.51m = a

Each participants will get 5 chances for each geometric shape from three different angles of the
goals which are 12 yards zone, from left side the goal and from right side of the goal. These will
be record on the labels that below.
