Biography
Born in Hamilton, Canada in 1998, Kristian Del Cantero is a guitarist, composer, and
teacher whose performances and studies have taken him across North America and Europe.
He has won top prizes in major international guitar competitions throughout Europe, United
States, and Canada.
Kristian currently studies privately with Sharon Isbin, and at Manhattan School of
Music with David Leisner. In the summer, Kristian studies on scholarship at the Aspen
Music Festival and School.

As a performer, Kristian has captivated audiences in major concert halls throughout the
world. This past November, Kristian made his European concert debut, playing a recital at
the Antwerpen Gitaar festival. The previous year he received First Prize at the International
competition. He has performed in renowned spaces such as the Sweelinckzaal in
Amsterdam, Mazzoleni Concert Hall in Toronto, Oscar Peterson Hall in Montreal, The
Sanderson Centre in Brantford, and Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall in Buffalo. In 2015,
Kristian received first prize in the Guitar Montreal International Youth Guitar Competition.
He has also earned first prize this year at the OMFA Classical Guitar Competition in Ontario,
as well as a top prize in the Buffalo International Youth Guitar Competition.
Apart from performing, Kristian is an avid composer and teacher. Last year, Kristian
released his first album entitled Lumos, a compilation of his own compositions and
improvisations. Kristian recently wrote a piece for Canadian guitarist Steve Cowan, entitled
“Fantaisie no. 1”. Prior moving to New York, Kristian taught privately and had many
students in Amsterdam. In the summer, Kristian teaches many students at the Aspen Music
Festival school, from ages 6-40.
After playing in Antwerp, Belgium, Jan Depreter, director of the Antwerpen Guitar
Festival, commented that Kristian played with “mature intensity…keep your eyes and ears
out for this young man!” After Kristian’s debut recital in the Sanderson Centre, the Brantford
Expositor described his playing as “High-Calibre Entertainment”. Kristian has had the
pleasure of playing concerts for the Guitar Society of Toronto, the Guitar Society of Brantford,
Guitar Montreal, and many other organizations across Canada and Europe. Kristian’s playing
has also been reviewed in Classical Guitar Magazine, the Hamilton Spectator, and Brant
News. Kristian also loves to collaborate with other musicians, having played with singers,
flutists, violinists and orchestras. Before moving to Amsterdam, Kristian studied guitar with
Patrick Feely, as well as studies with Robert Hamilton at the Royal Conservatory of Music in
Toronto.
