SOWK 694 – Cultural Process Recording Interview

Process recording instructions:

Please select one client to interview at your agency that represents someone culturally diverse
from you. You will interview this client specifically for this assignment, so please discuss with
your Agency Supervisor prior to engaging in this activity.
You will be the interviewer. The focus of this interview is to examine the cultural aspects that
exist within the case and to learn about the client’s cultural perspective while demonstrating
cultural sensitivity and humility. Please devise a minimum of 6-8 questions you will formally
asked the client to increase your understanding of the client’s identity, beliefs and values shaped
by their cultural perspective.
You are free to develop the questions with assistance from your supervisor if you need
guidance. Keep the focus of questions on assessing the client’s cultural position. Be sure to
write the questions on the form, and document any corresponding clarifying question that may
come up during the interview. Plan on the interview with the client being between 30-50
minutes.
Eliminate all identifying information about the client beyond briefly and generically describing
the client (e.g. Client is a White male, 37 y.o. and husband and father. Client completed high
school and has two years of college education. Client is employed full time and working in his
chosen career area, client has lived in this geographic area all of his life…) This should be a
synopsis of the client (meaning very short and giving an overall picture of the client).
Please make sure to identify the following components of the interview:
