Instructional 1. Following Mrs. Sieben’s Sonday lesson, I will sing with the students ​“My

letters one at a time. ​“Today, I want to share with you a very special book
about a very special mouse. Her name is Chrysanthemum and her name,
just like your name, is very special and made up of very special letters. Let’s
count the letters in her name.”
4. Read the story with the students, discussing parts of the story with the
students.
5. “​We each have a name and our names are made up of letters too.
Sometimes, we have lots of letters in our name, sometimes we have very
few. I want us each to take a moment and, using these notecards, we are
going to write our names and then count our letters in our name, just like
we did with my name at the beginning.” ​Show students, again, how to
write their name and then how to count their letters of their name.
6. “Now, friends, we are going to graph our names by how many letters we
have in our names. Does anyone know what a graph tells us?” H ​ ow many
names have a certain number of letters.
7. “We are now going to go through and put our notecards in the right spots,
let’s start with friends that have four letters in their name, ​Stop and discuss
each students name and count the letters together as a class.​ now five
letters, six, ect.”
8. Discuss the results of the graph with the students.
9. “Now, it is almost time for recess, can you show Mrs. Sieben that we are
ready for recess?”

Materials Needed: ➢ Each student’s name written on the bottom of a notecard
➢ Pencils for each student
➢ Graph prepared on chart paper
➢ LORETTA written on smaller chart paper to count
