NOVEMBER IS STEWARDSHIP MONTH
Welcome to UCCP Cosmopolitan Church!
Today we celebrate
Communion Sunday and All Saints Sunday
T
he communion table is where our faith and our theology is most fully ex-
pressed. In the breaking of bread and drinking of the cup we not only
remember Jesus’ life, but also recognize Jesus’ continual presence with us.
We proclaim Christ’s resurrection and his relationship to us as living Lord. This
means we recognize Christ’s abil-
ity to engage us in relationship, to
continue to teach us, guide us, and
lead us in our walk with God.
The communion table is also a
symbol of the inclusive nature of
our God. During the Last Supper,
Jesus invited those closest to him
— his friends and students — to
gather around him. Scripture tells

TEND MY SHEEP. The expanded outreach program of the Church known as “Tend
My Sheep” in partnership with the Kaibigan Ministry of the Center for Community
Transformation (CCT) now extends help to street dwellers of Manila (Tuesdays
and Fridays) by offering not only a meal but a health check up, counseling, shar-
ing of God’s Word and a possible education thru ALS (Alternative Learning Sys-

S
omeone has de-
scribed a “saint” as
any Christian who
makes it easier for others to
believe in God. One of the
neglected liturgical days in
many Protestant churches
is All Saints Day, which oc-
curs on the first Sunday in
November. This neglect is
understandable because the
tradition of the day is rooted
in medieval Catholicism.
Homage is given on this day
to the departed canonized
saints of the church.
There is, however, an
underlying meaning to this
day that evangelical Chris-
tians should use and rec-
ognized. Here, for example,
are some lessons it can
teach us:
• Every believer whom
God ahs called by His
grace and sanctified
by His Spirit has been
called to sainthood.
• A thankful spirit for the
memories of those be-
lievers from our local
church who were called
to their heavenly home
during the past year.
• Then, for many of us,
there has often been
one particular individual
who has especially influ-
enced our lives—direct-
ing us to God, tutoring
us in truth, and modeling
the virtues of the Chris-
tian life.
Bishop William W. How
wrote the text of “For All the
Saints” in 1864, for use in the
Anglican church liturgy com-
memorating All Saints Day.
It was originally titled “Saints
Day Hymn—Cloud of Wit-
nesses—Hebrews 12:1.”
How do we best honor
the memory of loved ones
and friends who have con-
tributed to our lvies? By re-
dedicating our own life to
God, obeying Him implic-
itly, and reaching out to the
needs of others.
For today, recall the vari-
ous individuals who have es-
pecially influenced your life
for God. Breathe a prayer
of thanks for their memory.

us Jesus was aware his disciples would
deny him, betray him, and desert him
that very evening, and yet Jesus invited
them to his table — the ultimate dem-
onstration of God’s grace and forgive-
ness. Even at the point of deepest dark-
ness and sin, Jesus welcomes us into his
presence. Therefore, as followers of Je-
sus Christ, we must always extend that
same unconditional welcome to others
whom God ushers into our midst.
All Saints Day is celebrated on
November 1 or the first Sunday of No-
vember. The ancient church set aside
