Served as the dual language coordinator at Emerson Elementary where I collaborated with nine
teachers in grades pk-2 to create an effective dual language program that promoted bilingualism
and biliteracy for 225 students. My goal was to ensure that all students in the program where
proficient in English by 2nd grade. I also provide feedback on sheltered instruction and different
strategies teachers could use in their lessons to support English language learners. I facilitated
PLC’s for grades pk-2 in which we discussed data, individual student needs, assessment, lesson
delivery and small group instruction to increase student achievement in the lower grades. As the
Campus Induction Coordinator, I coached four new teachers so that they would become highly
effective. I designed trainings that focused on their individual needs so that they would be
successful in the classroom. I also served as the LPAC coordinator where I had the opportunity
establish an LPAC team that was invested in our students and would ensure that all students were
identified correctly.
Teacher Specialist
Emerson Elementary
Houston ISD
August 2017-May 2018
As a teacher specialist at Emerson Elementary, I had the opportunity be the behavior coordinator
the campus. This experience allowed me to support a diverse group of students with different
behavioral needs. I was the contact person for all discipline referrals, behavior concerns, teacher
and parent concerns. As the behavior coordinator I was responsible for assisting teachers with
behavior problems that include: students who were off task, disruptive, aggressive, defiant, As the
behavior coordinator, I was also responsible for the school’s initiative to promote a positive
culture in every classroom. I provided teachers with feedback to teachers on how to create a
positive learning environment and ways of supporting students who had diverse social and
emotional needs. To support all our students, I created a tired intervention system that teachers
could use as a guide to refer students. This system allowed teachers to build capacity when
dealing with discipline and behavior problems and it allowed the Response to Intervention team I
identify students with special needs. As a member of the Response to Intervention Team and
Intervention Assistance Team we were able to identify and support 25 of students in the 2017-
2018 school year.
As a dual language teacher at Emerson Elementary I was responsible for creating effective lesson
plans that included content integrate ration to support my students in becoming bilingual and
biliterate. As a teacher I had to develop small group instruction lesson plans to differentiate for all
my students. From 2014-2017 I ensured that 90% of my students where reading on or above
grade level by the end of the year. As the team lead in first grade I had to provide teachers with
resources, feedback and we would collaborate in data talks to support all our students. As a
member of the SDMC I represented the first-grade team and had the opportunity to advocate for
dual language support though student interventions in both English and Spanish.
