Introduction

My name is Isabel Asker. Welcome to my Classroom Management Plan. I hope to teach

Kindergarten to Second Grade. I would like to teach Math and Language Arts. I have created this

Classroom Management Plan to convey both my beliefs on education as well as my classroom

management plans. In order to do so, I have included information about myself, my current

teaching philosophy, and artifacts designed to help define my management style and techniques I

plan to use in the classroom in effort to promote an optimal learning environment for my

students. In addition, I sincerely hope to show the reader my strong sense of passion and

enthusiasm for teaching. In the future I plan to utilize this portfolio as a means to create a safe

environment where learning can take place. I will also use it to document my progress as an

educator and ensure I am meeting the needs of my students to the best of my abilities.
Philosophical Statement

I believe classroom management is one of the most imperative components of a

productive classroom, for both teacher and student. With this in mind, I also believe that if

students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. In my philosophy I want to

ensure that I, as a future teacher, use methods and strategies to encourage a positive and safe

environment in which all students can learn and participate. I have a right to teach as a teacher

and my students have a right to learn. I want to model respect in the classroom for my students.

I, as the teacher, will have the responsibility to set a positive tone for my classroom and my

students’ behaviors. My classroom will be a democratic learning environment. My students will

participate in making classroom rules; have a choice on what rewards they would like to earn,

and activities they would like to do. Rudolph Dreikurs supports teaching in this fashion. It gives

students and teachers opportunities to work toward common goals in the classroom.
First
Day(s)
According to Wong and Wong’s First Days of school theory, it is important for the

teacher to be prepared and organized. Therefore, on the first day of school, I will greet my

students at the door with a high five for each student. I will tell the students a little about

me. I will tell them where I am from, where I received my education, and some of my

favorite things. I will have my students complete an all about me activity. This activity will

help me learn more about my students. During the first week of school, I will have my

students select how they would like me to greet them in the morning. They will have a choice

from fist bump, high five, handshake, or hug. I will send home a meet the teacher flyer.

Throughout the first couple weeks of school, I want my future students to know all of the

class rules and what are some of the consequences for misbehaviors. I would also guide my

students to understand where everything is located inside a classroom and develop a routine

of what to do when they are done with an assignment.

A Little About Me!

Artifact 1 – Meet the Teacher Flyer that will be sent home during the first week.
 The purpose of the meet the teacher flyer is to introduce myself to the parents of my
students. It is important for the parents to know a little about the person that has been
charged with educating their children.
Artifact 2 – Options for students on how he or she would like to be greeted in the
morning.
 I would like for my students to have a choice in how they are greeted in the morning.
I believe that by giving them a choice, I am fostering their individuality. I am
conveying the message that they have choices and that the classroom is ours and not
mines
Artifact 3 – All About Me Activity
 It is important that I treat my students as the individuals that they are. With this
activity, I am letting my students that I want to get to know them and they are all
special to me.
Classroom
Environment
Class Safety
According to Glasser’s Choice Theory, we all make choices based on basic human needs,

survival, belonging, power, freedom, and fun. With the students spending the majority of their

school day in the classroom, I would like the classroom to be an inviting and fun environment

while also being a safe environment. In my classroom, I would include flexible seating. I would

allow the students the freedom to choose their type of seating. I will have children sit on bean bags

in the reading center as oppose to chairs. Like Glasser, I also believe that when students are given

the power of choice; they are also given the power of learning. With the classroom not being the

students’ only environment, when in the hallway, the students would maintain a safe environment

using STEPS. Silent, Tiptoes, Eyes Forward, Place hands behind back, and Stayed focused. This

will allow for a smooth and safe transition in the hallways being that it can sometimes get a bit

hectic with multiple classes in the hallway at one time.

Welcome Kindergarten To Your Classroom!

Artifact 1 – Classroom Blueprint

 Classroom blueprint allows me to setup the classroom in safe but inviting way for students
to optimize their learning. It also serves as a guide when teaching students where things
are located in the classroom.
How Would You Like To Be Seated?

Artifact 2 – Flexible Seating Options

 By allowing flexible seating, the students will be more open to the learning process. It is
also a fun way to allow students the freedom to choose how they want to sit and learn.
Lets Make Walking in the Hallway Safe!

Artifact 3 – STEPS Sign

 STEPS will be the expected behaviors of my students when in the hallways of the school.
The sign by the door will serve as a friendly reminder to students of how they are to walk
in the hallway.
Classroom
Policies
Classroom
Procedures
According to Jones’ Positive Classroom, classroom management must be positive and

teach children self-control. For my classroom procedures, I will have hanging on the wall

next to the door the daily schedule. It will include the times and the subjects or ancillary that

the students are doing for the day. Generally, the subjects will remain consistent, but for the

ancillary, I will adjust daily based on which one the students have that week. With this daily

schedule in place, the students should be wondering what is next or where they will be at a

given time. I would also incorporate classroom jobs for the students because I find this to be

very effective in managing classrooms. Students will feel like they are part of a community,

it will teach them responsibility, and it will allow the me to run the class more smoothly with

help from of my students.

For my classroom policies, I want my students to have their own input on it because

this will allow them to be held accountable. On the policy, I would like for the students to be

kind to one another, to raise their hands, to be a good listener, to be nice to others, and to

follow directions. I would create a system where I will give students a reminder on how they

should compose themselves when in the classroom. I would tell the student to be a HERO.
What Will I Be Doing Today?

Artifact 1 – Daily Schedule

 Daily Schedule will encourage students to self-control by knowing their daily

activities.

Artifact 4 – HERO

 These are the traits that I would like for my students to have in the classroom.
Steps to Address
Misbehavior
Discipline
System
According to Skinner’s Behavior Modification Theory, a child’s behavior can be

modified with the use of positive reinforcement and/or a reward system. In my classroom, I

will have an individual rewards system and a class rewards system. The students can earn

individual prizes from a list that I will display in the classroom. The class as a group can earn

from a variety of party choices. While, I believe in rewarding students for good behavior, I

will also have consequences for those students that misbehave on a consistent basis. Like

Canter and Canter’s Assertive Discipline, an effective teacher will also have consequences

for students who do not follow rules. When a student initially misbehaves by disrupting class

and/or being off task, I would first give the student a warning that what they are doing is

disruptive and ask that he or she stop what they are doing. If the behavior for which the

student received a warning continues, I will have the student in think time where he or she

can think about their actions. Should I have to redirect the student’s behavior a third time, I

will send a not home to the parents. In my classroom, when a student is verbally or

physically aggressive, it will not be tolerated. The student will immediately be removed from

class. There will also be a parent/teacher/principle conference. In my classroom, the safety of

my students will always be top priority.

addressing/redirecting misbehaviors.
Student
Motivation
According to Shriver’s Community of Caring Theory, an effective teacher creates an

environment of caring, respect, family, and trust. I believe this theory works great for

motivating students. In my classroom, I want to motivate my students by having them

students to work together, such as cooperative learning. This not only will foster their

learning but, it will also teach them to care, respect, and trust one another. I want my

students to be proud of their work and the work of others as well. I would like to incorporate

a system where not only am I as the teacher telling them why I am proud of their work.

However, I would also like for them to express why they are proud of their work. I believe

that this will allow all my students to see the value their own work and motivate them to

continue to do their best and be successful. As the old saying goes, you can achieve anything

you put your mine to.

Lets Collaborate, Communicate, and Create!

Artifact 1 – Students Desk setup in groups of 5.

 Grouping student desk together will allow students to work together and motivate one
another.
I Am So Proud of Myself!

Artifact 2 – I am proud of my work card.

 I want students to be able to be proud of their hard work. I want them to believe it
themselves and not just hear it from me.
Classroom
Engagement
According Dreikurs’ Democractic Teaching and Mangamenet Theory, a teacher and

his/her students should work togther towards a common goal. I believe that in order for my

students and I to work together, I must keep them engage and excited about learning. When it

comes to keeping children engaged, especially the young leaners, it is a challenging task for

teachers. In my classroom, I will keep my students engaged by giving them all as much equal

opportunity to participate in discussion and learning. I will also give my students brain break that

are fun and silly when I feel like I am losing their attention. In addition, I would also incorporate

humor when appropriate into my lessons. I believe that laughter is healthy for all, especially

children. Therefore, if my students are laughing, I believe I have them engaged,
