• Henry Ford went bankrupt, sold his
company, and was hired by the
Dodge Brothers to make engines
and transmissions.
• Chrysler hired a rocket scientist to
help design the 1969 Plymouth
Superbird/Dodge Charger. The
Dodge Charger was the first car to
over 200 mph in NASCAR.
• The Dodge Demon has the fastest
quarter mile time ever recorded by a
production car.
• The Dodge Challenger Hellcat
comes with two keys: a regular
black key, which limits the car’s
horsepower to 500, and a red key,
which lets you use the car’s full 707
horsepower.
• The Dodge Viper broke 13 track
records in one year, making it one of
the world’s fastest production track
cars.

HISTORY
• 1897: John and Horace Dodge, start
off working as engineers within
their own bicycle company
• 1900s: By this time around, they
sold their bicycle company and
created a machine company. They
made machines and their parts.
• 1901: Ransom Olds hired the Dodge
Brothers to make engines and his
new curved-dash vehicles for his
company Oldsmobile.
• 1905: Henry Ford “hired” and
contracted the brothers to build
engines, transmissions, and axels for
him. They were compensated with
stocks instead of cash.
• 1913-1914: After 10 years with
Ford, the brothers decided to break
away and form their own company:
Dodge Brothers Motor Company. In
1914, the company debuted its first
automobile, a four-cylinder touring
car. They sold almost 250 during
the first year, and 45,000 the next
year.
• 1919: The brothers sold their Ford
Motor Company stock back to
Henry Ford for $25 million.
• 1928: Chrysler buys Dodge and
creates Plymouth along with the
purchase.

• 1940s: During WWII, Dodge
helped produce trucks and
ambulances. They also produced
their durable WC military utility
trucks for the Korean war in the
50s.
• 1950: Chrysler/Dodge began
working on a new engine called
the firepower.
• 1964: The second generation
firepower engine was renamed
the hemi engine. It was used in
the Dodge Charger Daytona that
broke the 200 mph barrier in
NASCAR.
• 1970s: Year that Dodge produced
their last generation of muscle
cars, i.e. Charger and Challenger.
The oil crisis in the U.S.
Changed the car market. Instead
of muscle cars, the population
wanted smaller economy cars.
• 2005: Dodge didn’t make another
muscle car until 2005, with the
return of the hemi engine and the
Chrysler 300 . The Dodge
Charger was revived in 2006,
along with the 392 hemi engine.
• 2018: Dodge releases the Dodge
Demon, a special edition Dodge
Challenger that can do 0-60 MPH
in 2 seconds.
