A potent drug that inhibits sodium
Furosemide
and chloride reabsorption at the
proximal and distal tubules and the
20mg TIV OD
ascending loop of Henle.
A 3rd generation cephalosporin that
Ceftriaxone
inhibits cell wall synthesis
promoting osmotic instability usually
2g TIV OD
bacteriacidal.
Thought to produce analgesia by
Paracetamol
blocking pain impulses by inhibiting
synthesis of prostaglandin in the
300mg IV q 4 hrs. for T:
CNS or of other substances that
37.8 degree Celsius
sentisize pain receptors to
(PRN)
stimulation.
Binds to the 50’s subunit of
Azithromycin bacterial ribosomes blocking protein
synthesis, bacteriostatic or
500mg 1 tab OD bacteriacidal, depending on
concentration
Replaces sodium and chloride and
maintain levels. It is capable of
Plain NSS (Neb) disrupting ionic bonds within the
mucus gel, which could reduce
cross linking and entanglements.
Nursing Responsibilities
 Observe patient for dizziness or
lightheadedness for 1 hour after
giving each dose
 Tell patient not to interrupt or stop
drug without medical approval
 Inform patient with he may
experience low blood
pressurewhen standing. Advise
him to sit down and to notify
prescriber if symptoms persist.
 Monitor weight, Blood pressure,
pulse rate routinely with long term
use and rapid diureses
 Monitor fluid intake and output and
electrolyte, BUN and carbon
dioxide levels frequently
 Watch out for signs of
hypokalemia, such as muscle
weakness and cramps.
 Instruct patient to stand slowly to
prevent dizziness
 Tell patient to report adverse
reactions promptly
 Instruct patient to report discomfort
at IV insertion site.
 Tell patient to notify prescriber
about loose stools or diarrhea
 Many OTC and prescription
products contain acetaminophen.
Be aware of this when calculating
total daily of dose.
 Tell patient not to use for marked
fever (temp. 39.5 degree Celsius),
Fever persisting longer than 3
days, or recurrent fever unless
directed by the prescriber.
 Monitor patient for superinfection.
Drug may cause overgrowth of
nonsusceptible bacteria or fungi.
 If patient vomits within 60 mins of
taking Zmax, notify prescriber.
 Advise patient to avoid excessive
sunlight and to wear protective
clothing and use sunscreen when
outside.
 Tell patient to report adverse
reactions promptly
 Monitor electrolyte levels
 Explain use and administration of
drug to patient and to family
 Tell Patient to report adverse
reactions.
