Extemporaneous Speech
An Extemporaneous Speech is a formal speech delivered that is researched, outlined, and well-
rehearsed before the actual delivery. Extemporaneous Speaking helps speakers learn to
organize and practice speech delivery overcoming speech anxiety. Concentrate on delivering
your speech smoothly and confidently.
Process:
1.You will draw 1 topic
2.Research it to give broad, but clear coverage
3.Organize a response properly. You are given a week to research and organize
your speech.
4.Give your speech. Time limit: 1-3 minutes.
5.When not speaking, take notes on the important points in others’ speeches.
Criteria:
1.You must have an introduction, body, and conclusion.
2.Your body must contain at least 2, but no more than 3, different points.
3.Your ideas must be developed.
4.You must remain on topic.
5.You must have an appropriate conclusion.
6.The following rubric will be used to assess your impromptu speech:
