We want to thank “My Sisters Place” for the series of Holiday Raffle Baskets they
have donated to our club. We will continue to update you as to what we will use
the money for. We raised $40 from the Labor Day Basket and used it for the 5k
Cancer Walk at Griffin Hospital in September. Patrick C. won that basket. The last
one we did, Louis D. was the big winner of the Halloween Basket and proceeds
totaled $34 and the committee decided to use it toward holiday fun at the club!
There is the Annual Thanksgiving Lunch at Christ Church in Ansonia, CT. from
12-1:30pm. All clients and members of BHcare are invited to come and we are
doing also our Annual Food Bank Drive for the church. They are so generous every
year and they allow us to use their space, so we collect canned and non-perishable
goods. Those goods are then used to help families and individuals in the
community that need food. We hope staff can help us get the word out too
because it’s a true effort to provided a dinner for everyone. Just one thing this is
not open to the public so please you must be in services to attend our lunch! We
have such a nice time talking and enjoying the holiday with one another!
Rebecca C. started up her woman’s tea group twice a month. The tea and scones
are delicious. We also talk about women’s issues. Look for the signup sheets and
sign up, you will love it!
We also would like to acknowledge Rebecca’s loss this past month. We are so sorry
that your family lost your sister in law. May she rest in peace.
We are so happy to see some of our members returning to the club after a nice
summer off. We look forward to you getting involved and having a wonderful
Holiday season with us at the club!
LET US GIVE THANKS BY SYLVIA H.
My personal greetings this month are from the heart! Happy Thanksgiving to all
who celebrate this months! For me I am once again grateful for the grace of
another year. Free from cancer and other health issues. My grateful person
cannot express how much this month brings hope to my life and I am sure you
all share with me. A time to reflect on the good and even on the bad having had
a revelation in how to do better. Please come and share your holiday
season with us at the VSC/BHcare. We are all together as a healing group that
needs each other at this celebrating time. Some are good days and some are
not but a reason to give thanks, resolve all unexplainable feeling that only those
on recovery can share. So I need not to bother you all except to say enjoy your
season for whatever reasons you have and always remember there’s a place to
go if you need to be safe and away from your troubles. The club is there to keep
it light and keep it real! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Your VP!

Halloween Party Mania! By John L.
The club joined up with our sister club OPTIONS to have a Halloween Party on
October 24th. It was a grand time for all! We mingled with their members. We
had a fine pizza, cupcakes, candy, and cookies for dessert. We sang together
karaoke songs. We admired all the people who dressed in costumes. This was a
swell time for all who attended. We humbly thank OPTIONS for giving us this
good party!
We also went to the Coalition Halloween Party at Fellowship Place on October
19th. There were clubs from everywhere there. We enjoyed the food and the
music. Even some of our members won a prize for their costumes. We had fun!

THE PEOPLE SPEAK!
Congratulations to Julianne M. (president), Sylvia H. (Vice President), and Paula B.
(Secretary). They wanted to return as your Executive Committee and they ran
unopposed. To me that means that your doing a great job and why change a thing! Their
term will be for the next two years of 2018-2020.
They wrote these statements if they were challenged as to why they want to be your
representatives:
Julianne M. for President– I am running for President because I want to work on more
things to better the club. I need to finish what I have started. I love what I’m doing and
want to continue doing it!
Sylvia H.-To our membership! I would very much like to keep my position as Vice
President of the VSC. I like what I do for the club and have every intention of doing the
same good job for the next two years. I will strive to do my best for the betterment of
the club. Please consider me as Vice President. Thank you!
Paula B.-I want to still be secretary. This is what I want to do. I know I can be a good
third term secretary.
So if you want to be apart of the planning of club activities you are welcome to always
join us on the first Thursday of the month after lunch program and bring your ideas but
also be ready to help plan and run them too! See you there!

Robert S.’ Corner!
In the early 1900’s, Lady Mary Wortley Montague developed a language of flowers in
which significant sentimental meanings and thoughts were assigned to many flowers.
Novembers traditional flower is the Chrysanthemum and its sentimental meaning is
“I Love”.

Thanks to all club members! From Jon B.
I would like to thank all the club members for signing Sue S.’s get well card. She is home
now and she really appreciated the beautiful sentiment and support.
Don’t forget your flu shot because they say this year the flu could be the worst yet. So
call your doctor or just go to any walk in or pharmacy like CVS, Rite Aide, Walgreens and
you can get one. Your insurance will pay for it or it is free sometimes. Don’t also forget
to wash your hands well after being in very public places. It may be the only way to stay
well in the winter months.

THE OTHER SIDE BY: LISA ANN SORLIE
I stand today with the adaptability to experience
all of my emotions in the proper frequency.
There was a time when I had no view or concept of this side.
Today, I marvel at nature and its wonders and its details.
My day begins with, what I can achieve today.
Just by starting a day with a good morning world,
Despite the weather is a miraculous feeling to warm one’s
Heart and soul. I am so amazed with what I can achieve.
Today, as I was on the other side not too long ago it was
A very dangerous and dark time in my life,
A time that I never perceive would end the way it has.
Today I can look down my doorway of life and stand
Tall that I am winning the fight of living with mental Illness.
I stand on what I call the other side.
