The reflective cycle: Secondary Formatted: Spanish (Argentina)

I knew, before starting my period, that active experimentation was going to be of great
importance, I never worked in secondary, and a fourth year was going to be a big challenge
for me. That was why my observation lessons were crucial for me. I had to discover the way
of working withof adolescents of 16 years old, their preferences and characteristics of the
group. The group is a big one, they are 25. Some of them has already failed the subject, so
they did not work as the rest. The group is a bit noisy. During my observations I realized
that they are in a pre-intermediate level of English.
When planning my first lesson I had to apply theory I have read. The class does not have a
T.V, so I knew it was impossible to plan videos.
Concrete experience: Bearing in mind that students need visual support I decided to print
colour pictures in order to present and/or demonstrate meaning. Bringing visual support
was a very positive aspect as students got more involved better in the activities planned. I
also decided to plan collaborative activities, something that worked really well was making
posters in groups. Every lesson I tried to give students extra worksheets with pictures, as
they were not used to working with that kind of material, they enjoyed them and I felt
motivation in students.
As it was my first experience in secondary school, I know that I need to improve certain
aspects. To begin with, I need to work on the setting of a context that really catches
students’ attention. I always tried to set a meaningful context, but sometimes it does not
catch their attention as I expected. Another thing I have to do better is the transition
between activities, I need to work in that important aspect in order to give my lessons a
meaningful sequence and order.
My conclusion and my balance is a positive one. The experience was extremely useful for
me, I learnt a lot of things about adolescents, and I learnt how to work with them, their
favourite topics and preferences. Working with kindergartenerss and children is totally
different than the work with teens. After my three experiences I can say that I have learnt
more in the last period than in the others two. The best thing was that I learnt more things Commented [AV1]: Why do you think it was so? Was the
