a. Motivation/Engagement:
TW CHAMP lesson to review learning and behavior expectations with students.

b .Developmental Activities or Learning Experiences:


This lesson is an introductory lesson into their Writers Workshop Binders.
1. Explain each writing tool and why or how a student writer might use each
tool.
a. Tools include: Alphabet Chart, Blends/Digraphs Chart, I love
Writing Topics, Circle Maps and the Word Wall
2. Model how to retrieve the writing tools at their desk and at the writing
center.
3. As we talk about the tools show the students the real examples.
4. Partner Talk: Turn and tell your neighbor what I did to get ready for writing
class today.
5. Have the students share.
6. Then model how to put away their materials at the end of lesson.
7. Partner Talk: Turn and tell your neighbor what I did to get done with
writing class today.
8. Have the students share.
9. Now ask the students to pretend we were just starting writing class today,
they have decided what they are going to write about, ask them “What
tools are you going to need for writing turn and share with your partner.”
10. Have one student model the routine for getting out their binders and start
writing, narrate this to the class and the students is practicing.
11. Then have another student model cleaning up also narrate this for the
class.
12. Then send all the students off to write for the day.
c. Closure:
1. Practice the procedures for putting away their writing tools correctly. Have
a few of the students share what they wrote about if time allots.

6. Accommodations, Modifications and Differentiations for Diverse Learners:
- As this lesson is mostly introducing a routine I will make sure I am very clear
about instructions.
- When it comes to the actual writing their are a few lower students that I will have
come work with me in a small group to provide extra support.

9. Reflection:
This lesson went really good. It was a introductory lesson into their writers workshop binders

and they listened very well as this was our last part of the long morning. They followed

directions, they understood what they were using their tools for. There task for actual writing

was to use one tool from their writers workshop notebooks. The kids did great with this they

used their circle maps, their alphabet charts, and their writing topics. We did have 50 mins for

this block but it went by super fast, which kind of shocked me because I thought it was going to

drag on since it was out long morning but it didn’t. So I’m looking forward to doing more writing

instruction with them in the next couple weeks.
