Importance of Discipline in Life

Discipline is the key to success - this saying holds true for all times and for all people of all
age groups. But for students it holds a great value. In contemporary times there are so many
temptations that can lure a student away from his basic objective in life.

The glittering world of advertisement, the glamorous world of modeling and cinema unfold a
new era in front of young people and they are wooed by the glamour. Those of us who are not
wise enough to think rationally will be swept off our feet and carried away by the fast paced
winds of change.

It is good to change, I am certainly not against changing. But the million-dollar question is,
how much to change, when to change and, above all, why do we need to change?

These are the questions young minds should put to themselves before they blindly follow the
latest trends. Everything that glitters is certainly not gold and many a times what does not
glitter and does not catch one's fancy might be more precious than gold. Before being swept
off by changing winds, a student should think and consciously choose which path to follow.
Apart from these, web chatting also takes up much of a youngster's time.

At a student's level, where there is cut-throat competition and time is extremely precious,
these can prove to be real obstacles to overcome. Self-discipline is something students should
aim to achieve. It is not a commodity one can buy from the market. It is a rare quality which
one has to inculcate, nurture and cherish from early childhood. Through self-discipline will
come concentration which will in turn help a student to scale newer heights of academic
excellence. Success will be theirs for the taking who value and practise self-discipline and
abide by it at all times.

Temptations are always there. Only the forms of temptations change. But those of us who
learn the subtle art of self-discipline and self-constraint, nothing can prevent us from attaining
our goals in life. Let's us all aim to be a little more self disciplined from henceforth.
Discipline is Training expcted to produce a specific character or pattern of
behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement. It is the suppression
of base desires, and is usually understood to be synonymous with restraint and self-control.
Self-discipline is to some extent a substitute for motivation. Discipline is when one uses
reason to determine the best course of action that opposes one's desires, which is the opposite
of fun. Virtuous behavior can be described as when one's values are aligned with one's aims:
to do what one knows is best and to do it gladly. Continent behavior, on the other hand, is
when one does what one knows is best, but must do it by opposing one's motivations.Moving
from continent to virtuous behavior requires training and some self-discipline.

Discipline is a way of life, where one tries to be on time and live in a systematic way.

Discipline is not limited to money, riches or by poverty but it is just a personal orientation
towards life.
It is a habit and not an adaptation in life. So one can practice discipline for better life.
Many successful people attribute their success to discipline.

For them more than knowledge, communication or skill, discipline played a key role in their
way to success.
Discipline in life has many virtues like being focused, staying healthy and also avoiding
problems. As per the current life style and social trends, discipline techniques seems to be one
of the essential life skills.

working people cannot be successful if they are not disciplined.

Seeing the list advantages of discipline, there should be a proper guidance and discipline in
early childhood. Parents need to habituate self discipline techniques in children.
For this they can take help of schools which inculcate high discipline.
There is a need and importance of discipline in our society and in our life. In our home, in
schools in the playground and everywhere in this world discipline brings order.

The absence of discipline brings disorder and chaos. There are some rules that control our
activities. If we do not respect these rules, our life will be like a boat without the boatman. If
we do not obey our parents at home, our teachers at school and the referee or the umpire in the
playground, we can imagine what will happen. So both our parents and the teachers are very
anxious to make us see the need for discipline. They want us to grow up like disciplined
soldiers. In the armed forces discipline is everything. Without discipline the army is a rabble.
Like them we all must be disciplined, so that everybody can be proud of us.

Discipline is something which keeps everyone under good control. It motivates a person to go
ahead in the life and get success. Every one of us has experienced discipline in different forms
according to their own requirement and understanding towards life. It availability of it in
everyone’s life is very necessary to go on the right path. Without discipline life becomes
inactive and useless as nothing go according to the plan. If we need to implement our strategy
in right way about any project to be completed, we need to be in discipline first. Discipline is
generally of two types. One is induced discipline in which we learn to be in discipline by others
and another one is self-discipline which comes from own mind to be in discipline. However
sometimes, we need motivation from someone effective personality to improve our self-
discipline habit.
We need discipline in many ways at many stages of our life so it is good to practice discipline
from the childhood. Self-discipline means differently to different people such as for students,
it means motivating ownself to get concentrated on the study and complete assignments in right
time. However, for working person, it means to get up from bed on time in the morning, do
exercise to get fit, go to office on time, and do job tasks properly. Self-discipline is highly
required by everyone to have, as in modern time no one has time for others to motivate towards
being in discipline. Without discipline one can be failure in the life, she/he cannot enjoy
academic success or other success in the career.
Self-discipline is required in every field like dieting (it needs to control over fatty and junk
foods), regular exercise (it needs to concentrate), etc. One can get health disorders and fatty
body without control over food so it needs discipline. Parents need to develop self-discipline
habits as they need to teach their kids a good discipline. They need to motivate them all time
to behave well and do everything at right time. Some naughty children do not follow their
parent’s discipline, in such cases parents need to have dare and patience to teach their naughty
children. Everyone has different time and capacity to learn the meaning of discipline according
to the nature. So, never give up and always try to get in discipline, as a small step can be
converted to large step a day.

Self-discipline is one of the most important and useful skills everyone should possess. This
skill is essential in every area of life, and though most people acknowledge its importance,
very few do something to strengthen it.

Contrary to common belief, self-discipline does not mean being harsh toward yourself, or
living a limited, restrictive lifestyle. Self discipline means self control, which is a sign
of inner strength and control of yourself, your actions, and your reactions.

Self discipline gives you the power to stick to your decisions and follow them through,
without changing your mind, and is therefore, one of the important requirements for
achieving goals.

The possession of this skill enables you to persevere with your decisions and plans until you
accomplish them. It also manifests as inner strength, helping you to overcome addictions,
procrastination and laziness, and to follow through with whatever you do.

One of its main characteristics is the ability to reject instant gratification and pleasure, in
favor of some greater gain, which requires spending effort and time to get it.

Self discipline is one of the important ingredients of success. It expresses itself in a

variety of ways:

 Perseverance.

 The ability not to give up, despite failure and setbacks.

 self control.

 The ability to resist distractions or temptations.

 Trying over and again, until you accomplish what you set out to do.

Life puts challenges and problems on the path to success and achievement, and in order to
rise above them, you have to act with perseverance and persistence, and this of course,
requires self-discipline.

The possession of this skill leads to self-confidence and self esteem, and consequently, to
happiness and satisfaction.
On the other hand, lack of self discipline leads to failure, loss, health and relationships'
problems, obesity, and to other problems.

This skill is also useful for overcoming eating disorders, addictions, smoking, drinking and
negative habits. You also need it to make yourself sit and study, exercise your body, develop
new skills, and for self improvement, spiritual growth and meditation.

As said earlier, most people acknowledge the importance and benefits of self discipline, but
very few take real steps to develop and strengthen it. However, you can strengthen this ability
like any other skill. This is done through training and exercises, which can find at this
website.

Self Discipline Benefits and Importance

Self-discipline helps you:

 Avoid acting rashly and on impulse.

 Fulfill promises you make to yourself and to others.

 Overcome laziness and procrastination.

 Continue working on a project, even after the initial rush of enthusiasm has faded away.

 Go to the gym, walk or swim, even if your mind tells you to stay at home and watch TV.

 Continue working on your diet, and resisting the temptation of eating fattening foods.

 Wake up early in the morning.

 Overcome the habit of watching too much TV.

 Start reading a book, and read it to the last page.

 Meditate regularly.

It will be easier for you to strengthen your self discipline, if you:

1. Understand its importance in your life.

2. Become aware of your undisciplined behavior and its consequences. When this
awareness increases, you will be more convinced of the need to make a change in your
life.

3. Make the effort to act and behave according to the decisions you make, regardless of
laziness, the tendency to procrastinate, or the desire to give up and stop what you are
doing.

4. You can strengthen your self disciple, even if it is currently weak, with the help of
special simple exercises, which you can practice at any time or place.

Discipline is also something that needs to be used on others where necessary. If parents didn’t
discipline their children when they were naughty, children wouldn’t grow up knowing right
from wrong, or be able to become productive members of society who contribute to the
system. Equally, schoolteachers need to be able to dish out punishments to children who
don’t behave themselves. Without discipline in the classroom, there would be a great deal of
disruption and nobody would ever learn anything. Indeed, teachers who struggle to command
the respect of students and who fail to use discipline effectively will often have trouble even
making themselves heard in a classroom.

In the workplace, discipline is also essential to maintaining a hierarchy and dealing with
employees who do not follow company policies and procedures, regularly arrive late or not at
all, or treat their co-workers unfairly. Then, you have to consider that without discipline,
there would be no law enforcement. Murderers would be roaming the streets and everybody
would be stealing from each other, because there would be no consequences for their actions.

Discipline acts as a vital deterrent to stop children being naughty, people from missing work,
and even potential criminals from stealing and killing, and for this reason it is vital in human
society.

In my point of view
Discipline is important..it is...not because you will not be able to achieve success..you will
eventually...if not today then tomorrow you will,by hook or crook you will get what you want
to achieve in life but that span will be comparatively longer and more tedious than the one
achieved when done with a set of rules(read discipline). Discipline is also basically a set of
rules which are very fundamental in nature. These set of rules are/were designed by our great
great great grandfathers to achieve anything we want to and surprisingly they work till now.
And yes it's true. We hear stories of people who were lazy and didn't worked hard yet they
were more successful. What we don't hear is that they were successful after they brought
discipline in their life. Every sphere of life including the whole biosphere follows the
discipline. The randomness of nature also has a discipline in it. And yes to achieve the goal
you have follow the rules . Ask someone who manufactures liquor at his home and you will
know what discipline is. You can achieve anything if you are disciplined. That is the reason
why it is the most focused part of a soldier's training. Pulling a trigger is very easy but pulling
the trigger at the right moment at the right person at the right place is hard . That's why
discipline is required. Discipline is the most fundamental thing we need for success but most
of us neglect it. Discipline also carves out a beautiful character in you automatically. So
overall you cannot tend to ignore it if you want to be successful.
