This paper explores the possibility of making urban spaces fruitfull and delivering its potential in

terms of several factors. These factors has been taken from the studies of many urban designer’s
points of view on the same.

1.ORGANICNESS – Christopher Alexander – The social logic of space

2. INTEGRATION - Bill Hillier – Social Logic of space
3. The serial vision – Gorden Cullen

Today, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. However, by 2050 this is forecast to increase to two thirds.
Creating cities that are receptive and responsive to their inhabitant’s needs is, or should be, the aim of urban planners and
designers worldwide. Public spaces are a vital ingredient of such cities. But, what makes a great public space? What is it
that makes these spaces more comfortable, both psychologically and physiologically, for some people more than others?

There have been several attempts to deconstruct and articulate what makes a public space work for its users (what Barker
referred to as ‘synomorphy’)1. Some are focused on how spaces affect human emotions 2, some consider how users
perceive and sense the space 3-5, while others consider how a space might affect physiological comfort 6-7. However, there is
a gap in the literature in exploring how these factors may interact with each other and affect the human experience of public
spaces.

Quality urban spaces and districts foster social interaction that generates and sustains meaningful
community. The most such successful urbanities emerge over long periods of time, experiencing series
of revision and improvement that refine them into rich environments replete with social activity and,
thus, healthy communities.
