• Manufacturing Opportunities
In the mid 1980’s the Hexalobular / Six-Lobe Drive system was adopted by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) to provide a cost-effective solution to address the inherent problems of installing and servicing fasteners. Today many
international communities and industrialized nations have been adopting and replacing outdated conventional fasteners with
the Hexalobular / Six-Lobe fastener systems, which are more reliable, increase productivity and reduce servicing and
installation assembly costs without paying any royalties or license fees.

• Drive Feature & Benefits

The Six-Lobe Drive System is recognized as one of the most efficient fastening systems available because of its ability to
transfer torque, reducing the end load and eliminating tool bit or driver slippage. NO cam-out or deformation of the drive
form occurs, which typically happens with other drive systems such as Hexagon, Square, 12-Point, Cruciform, Phillips or
Type 1A Pozi. This reduces driver bit and tool usage, improves productivity and reduces the risk of damage to other
components. The same sized driver tool seats both inch and metric-size fasteners allowing the ability to add or convert to
metric without a drive tool change.

• Higher Torque Transfer

The 15º driving angle forces are transferred through surfaces
rather than through edges. This drastically reduces radial
forces for longer tool life, resulting in less wear on tools and
no damage to the corrosion protection on fasteners.

• Promotes Longer Tool Life

The optimal torque transmission extends the working life of
screw driving tools. This leads to considerable cost savings,
above all when working with small screws or socket set
screws.

• Self Retaining Drive Feature

The drive form can be modified with special tapered angles
to provide a stick-fit or self retaining feature.

• Increased Tool Engagement

A unique design benefit of the Hexalobular / Six-Lobe Drive is straight, vertical sidewalls that increase tool engagement,
which virtually eliminates the cam-out forces that always push the tip of the driver blade up and out of screws with Phillips,
Pozi and Cruciform designs. Greater depth an increased surface contact engagement between the six-lobe form in the
fastener and the driver allows the driving forces to spread over an increased surface area as opposed to the point contact
of many current outdated drive systems.
• Manufacturing Standards & Documents
Around the world, several international and governmental committees (ISO, EN, DIN, JIS, IFI, NAS, ANSI) have published
the fastener manufacturing standards with all the gauging documents that provide the technical data (“know-how”) support
for most common designs. These controlled documents are consistently updated and the necessary manufacturing
technology can be obtained from numerous on-line agencies or document stores with current revisions, which provides world
wide document uniformity of control.

• Driver Availability
The popular acceptance and standardization of the ISO
Hexalobular / Six-Lobe Drive makes access to driver bits,
key sets, sockets and screw drivers readily available from
thousands of retail store and industrial outlets around the
world. Modifications to the Six-Lobe form are possible for
special driver and gauging applications, such as automated
assembly lines, high torque conditions, low profile recesses
and tamper proof designs.

• One Drive Tool

An added benefit of using Six-Lobe Drive is that the same
size tool is used on both inch and metric fasteners. This
simple, cost saving method is a convenient way for
companies to reduce the number of tools used on assembly
lines or servicing centers.

• Engineering Development
Companies that have successfully converted existing fastener drives to the Hexalobular / Six-Lobe Drive System have
realized the benefits including no royalty payments, increased productivity, reduced rework, improved working conditions,
and overall lower costs. The Six-Lobe design provides higher torque and opens up new possibilities for special shapes in
fastener head profiles virtually eliminating the problems associated with installing low head or flat head screws.

• Tamper-Resistant Fasteners
One of the distinctive variations to the Hexalobular / Six-Lobe
Drive is a security post formed in the center of the recess
during the forming process. When combined with a
countersunk or button head design, the fastener is extremely
difficult to remove without a special tamper-resistant drive
tool. Available tooling & gauge sizes M2.5 – M25 (#3 to 1")

• Dual Drive Systems

The Hexalobular / Six-Lobe Drive can be combined and/or
designed with either an external hex, 12-point, or a slot to
provide a combination dual drive system. This provides the
option of driving or removing the fastener with optional drive
systems.
