I. TITLE : A Training Course on Student Management Information


System

II. DESCRIPTION :

This training program aims to equip the users of SMIS with enough knowledge and

skills on how to navigate, manipulate and use the system effectively. The training focuses

on introducing the new system made for the Division of Quezon, thus, allowing teachers

to be able to independently use and confidently train others on the whereabouts of the

system.

III. RATIONALE :

This training is based on the findings of the study made in the proposed

development of student management information system. The data gathered came up

with the following findings that the current manual system used in the Division of Quezon

was time-consuming and error prone. This then results to inefficiency of teachers in the

preparation of forms and submission of reports. There were also problems encountered

by teachers in the present manual systems in terms of submission of reports and integrity

of information. This showed that the school has a problem with grade computation since

it takes time to compute and submit grades. Another problem encountered implied that

the schools’ records may not be safe to calamities. These problems led to the

development of an automated system which aimed to improve the working methods by

replacing the activities done manually with the computer-based system. By automating

every activity of the manual system being employed by the school, work becomes easier

and grades are computed accurately in less time.

The guidelines for the effective implementation of K-12 Basic Education Program

in the Philippines clearly stated that the use of Information and Communication

Technology in instructions will help develop learners to be empowered in a rapid changing

world (DepEd, 2015). This directive of the department mandated all the public schools in

the country to use learning equipment and materials which includes computer programs

that are educational, interactive and experiential.

Studies showed that the use of computers has a significant impact in learning and

teaching process (Fritz, 2013). This program provides information about student record,

grades and summarization of student outcomes in one computer generated report.

Student Management Information System provides a comprehensive process in

substituting the manual system being done in the Department of Education.

IV. OBJECTIVES:

General Objective : Make teachers familiarize with the ins and outs of the SMIS

Specific Objectives :
1. Update teachers with the use of ICT in recording
and retrieval of student record.

2. Let teachers be independent on how to use the


system.

3. Preserve the taught skills and be able to innovate


for the betterment of the Division of Quezon.
