Research Coordinator, Preventing Obesity in Military Communities – Adolescents


 Primary study coordinator on randomized controlled trial comparing interpersonal
psychotherapy to health education for the prevention of excess weight gain among adolescent
(12-17 y) military dependents
 Recruited over 100 participants for study through mailings, recruitment kiosks in medical
treatment facilities, and family medicine physician referrals
o Interacted one-on-one with families to provide information about the study
o Conducted phone screens to assess past psychiatric treatment, medical history, eating
behaviors, and anxiety
 Conducted over 70 participant assessments at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and Walter
Reed National Military Medical Center
o Coordinated study assessments with hospital staff and members of research team
o Obtained parental consent and adolescent participant assent
o Oversaw timed, fasting blood draws
o Collected anthropometric data and body composition measurement via air displacement
plethysmography (BODPOD)
o Administered and evaluated the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) interview, a semi-

o Screened participants for depressive and anxiety symptoms using two validated screening
tools: Beck Depression Inventory-II and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children

intake and excess weight gain
