1.1. Administration: The Faculty of law (INTRA) Moot Court Competition, 2018 organized
by The Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia. The Competition is to be held from 16th
November to 18th November 2018 at The Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia.
1.2. Language: The Competition shall be conducted in the English language only.
1.3. Structure of the Competition: The Competition consists of Preliminary Rounds and
Advanced Rounds viz., Quarter-Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.
1.4. Interpretation of the Rules: The Faculty Convener shall serve as the final authority of
implementation and interpretation of these Rules.
2.1. Eligibility: Students from 1st to 3rd year pursuing their 5-year undergraduate B.A.LL.B
(Hons.) Degree Course from Faculty of Law, Jamia are eligible to participate in the
competition.

3. REGISTRATION
3.1. Teams must confirm their participation by 21st October, 2018 by sending an email to
jmcc.jmi@gmail.com with the subject “Confirmation for Faculty of law (INTRA) Moot Court
Competition, 2018” or by giving an application in writing to the Moot Court Committee.
3.2. In case, if a team submits the Hard Copy of their Application, then must necessarily
mention the following:
a) Name of each Participant
b) Email I’d and Contact Number of each participant
3.3. The Registration Desk shall be open for the teams to get their attendance marked on 16th
November 2018. The teams must also be clear as to who will be the speakers and researcher
for the competition throughout. The same shall be clarified to the Moot Court Committee on
the Registration Desk itself.
4. MEMORIAL
4.1. Each memorial shall necessarily consist of the following and only the following
sections:
a) Cover Page
b) Table of Contents
c) List of Abbreviations
d) Index of Authorities
e) Statement of Jurisdiction (1 page)
f) Statement of Facts (1 page)
g) Issues Raised (1page)
h) Summary of Arguments (2 pages)
i) Written Submissions (20 pages)
j) Prayer (1 page)
Note:- Non-compliance with the page limits prescribed above shall entail penalty as laid down
further in the rules.

4.2. Each memorial shall have the following and only the following on its cover page:
a) The team code on the top right-hand corner of the cover page.
b) The name and place of the forum.
c) The relevant legal provision under which filed.
d) Name of parties and their status.
e) Memorial Filed on Behalf of Appellant/Claimant/Respondent.
4.3. A team code shall be assigned to each of the participating teams at the culmination of
Registration formalities by 30th October 2018 on their respective email ids. Names of the
participants or of the institution being represented must not be mentioned anywhere in the
memorial. Any other mark, character or text that reveals the identity of the team members or
of the institution being represented would also be considered a violation of this Rule.
Violation of this Rule shall attract severe penalty at the sole discretion of the Competition
Administrator.
4.4. The hard copies of the memorial must bear a cover page in conformity with the following
scheme -
Petitioner(s)/Appellant(s): Blue;
Respondent(s): Red
4.5. Submission of Memorial: The electronic copy of each memorial must reach the
following e-mail address: jmcc.jmi@gmail.com latest by, 10th November 2018 (at or before
23:59 hours IST) with the subject of the e-mail being ‘Memorial Submission by Team Code-
……..’. The teams must submit 4 hard copies of their memorial from each side to the Moot
Court Committee latest by 12th November 2018. Delay in submission shall attract penalty as
enlisted further in the rules.
4.6. The memorials must only be submitted in ‘.doc’ or ‘.docx’ format on the given email
I’d.
7. The file names of the soft copy of the memorial must contain only the team code and the
side being represented in the following format: TC23-A or TC23-R, where ‘A’ and ‘R’
represent the ‘Appellants’ and ‘Respondents’ set out in the Proposition, and ‘TC’ along with
a number represent the Team Code.

6. RESEARCHER’S TEST
6.1. There shall be a researcher’s test which will be conducted on 16th November 2018 after
the Registration at the Registration Desk.
6.2. No member, other than the researcher shall allowed to write the Researcher’s Test.

7.8. Teams can pass on compendium comprising sources they cite in their memorial, if so
requested by the judges, or if they wish to produce it before the judges.
7.9. In every round of the Competition, teams arguing for Petitioner/Claimant/
Complainant/Applicant will argue their case first.

9. SCOUTING
9.1. No member of any team will be permitted to hear the arguments in any court room in
which that team is not one of the contesting teams whilst that team is still in the Competition.
The organizers may take appropriate action, including disqualification from the Competition,
against any team found to be scouting through a team member or through any other means.
9.2. However, every team shall be allowed to witness the final round.
10.2. The teams are prohibited from making any marks on the exchanged memorial.
10.3. The teams are prohibited from making any copies of the exchanged memorial.

10.4. At the conclusion of their respective rounds, the teams are required to return the
exchanged memorial to the bailiffs of the Court where the round is so conducted.
