A. Prayer

______, kindly lead the prayer. Dear God, Add our patience…

B. Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning Sir Ferdie ! It is nice to see

you.
It is nice to see you too!
Take your seats, and kindly pick up all
the pieces of paper around your place.

C. Checking of Attendance

Let us see how many are you today.

Start counting from the first row to the
last row.

It seems that we have a perfect (The students will start counting until the last
attendance today. Keep it up! number has been reached.)
48 is last number Sir!
D. Review

Now, before we start with our lesson ,

let us have a review.

(The teacher will show the given on the

flashcards.)

So, what was our lesson yesterday?

Very good! It was converting the English System of

To review, let’s have a drill. measurement in the measures of length.

5 feet =_____ inches 60 inches

36 yards = -------- feet 12 feet

2 miles =________yards 3,520 yards

yardsyards
yards
Very Good! yardsyards
Based on our drill, again how do we convert the Sir, we can convert the English System of
English System feetyards
of measurement in the measures
yards --- measurement in the measures of length by
of length? ------ yards using the conversion factors. We use the
operation of multiplication when converting
larger unit to smaller unit and division when
converting smaller to larger unit.

Good answer!
It is clear that we use conversion factors when
we convert the English System of measurement
in the measures of length. It is operation of
multiplication that we use when converting
larger unit to smaller unit and division when
converting smaller to larger unit.
It seemed that you understood our lesson
yesterday.
Do you have any question class? None Sir.

E. Motivation

Now, to start with our new lesson, we are going

to play a game. Do you want to play a game, Yes Sir.
class?
But before we start our game, let us dance first.
I will teach you simple steps, so all you have to
do is to follow my steps. Are you ready? Yes Sir.

(The teacher, together with the students will

dance by following the steps of the teacher
while watching the video presentation that will
serve as clues to help them know the answer in
the game.)
Now, are you ready to play class? Yes, Sir.

Our game is called “ Word of War ”. This game

is a contest among four groups. So, form your (The students will go to their respective
group silently. group.)

Now, let us start our game. Using projector, I

will show you a jumbled word and you will
arrange it to find the magic words. Every group
has only one representative to post your answer
on the board. Those who can get the correct
answer in the fastest time will get a point. Then,
those who will get the highest points will be the
winner and will get a reward.
This is your group name:
Group I – Mathalino
Group II – Mathsayahin
Group III - Mathyaga
Group IV - Mathapat

Ready class? Yes Sir!

EMETR METER

MIMTIERLEL MILLIMETER

NECEMET IR T CENTIMETER

ILMEKOTER KILOMETER

ONVRSICEON CONVERSION

And the winner is group ___________

F. Lesson Proper

Based on your answers in our game, what do Sir, it is Metric System of Measurement
you think is our lesson today?

That is right! And we will convert Metric

System for the measures of length.

Now, what words come first into your mind

when you hear the word Metric System? I am reminded of Meter,
Good answers! Centimeter,Kilometer, etc…

What is Metric System? Metric System is a decimal system of weights

and measures based on the meter and on the
kilogram.

The following are the metric units of length.

Please read them.

Word Symbol Meaning

Kilometer Km 1000 meters (The student reads the metric units of length.)
hectometer hm 100 meters
dekameter dam 10 meters
meter m 1 meter
decimeter dm 0.1 meter
centimeter cm 0.01 meter
millimeter mm 0.001 meter

Class, do you know what is the basic unit of Sir , meter is the basic unit of length for
length for metric measure is? metric measure.

Yes, precisely correct.

We can present this on the number line like this.
And it is called Metric Converter.

_____________________________________

And this metric converter can help you convert /

change values from one metric unit to another.
So, with that, let me give you an acronym for
you to easily remember each unit in order. (The students read something that will make
them remember the metric converter.)

________________________________

km hm dam m dm cm mm
i e i r h i
n n e i o l
g r d n c k
y k o
i l
n a
g t
e

For example:
1. Convert 2 km to m
Solution: Using the metric converter ( moving
to the right) multiply by a power of 10

2 km x 1000 = 2000 m

Example 2
How about, 1.5 hm converted to cm? The solution is
1.5 hm x 1000 = 1,500 cm
Very good!
Now , what can you say about the unit that we
converted in our examples? Sir, we converted larger unit to a smaller unit.
That is correct.
And what operation did we perform? Sir, we performed multiplication

So , can you give me now the rule in converting To convert a larger unit to a smaller unit ,
larger unit to smaller unit. use the metric converter and multiply by the
power of 10.

Very good!

Remember that we can convert a larger unit to a

smaller unit by using metric converter and
multiplying by the power of 10.
Did you follow, class? Yes , Sir .

Answer this example?

Example 3. Convert 500 cm to m
Solution: Using the metric converter ( moving
to the left ) divide by a power of 10 , we’ll have
:
500 cm 100m = 5m

Let us take another one :

Example 4 : Sir, here is the solution
3.15 mm to m 3.15 mm 1000 = 0.00315 m
Who wants to answer on the board?
We converted smaller to larger unit , Sir

Correct! Now what have you observed about the

unit that we converted here?
And what operation did we perform when
changing / converting smaller unit to a larger We use division, Sir
unit?

Very Good? Can you give me now the rule in To convert a smaller unit to a larger unit ,
converting smaller unit to a larger unit? use the metric converter and divide by the
power of 10.

Yes, Correct. In converting smaller unit to a

larger unit , you have to use the metric
converter and divide by the power of 10.

Using metric converter, we can simply convert

one unit to another on metric system.
Let us use again our examples to do it :

Example 1.Convert 2 km to m
To convert larger unit to a smaller unit using
metric converter , we will just move the decimal
point in the given quantity one place to the right
until the desired unit is reached. So , how many
movements do we have from kilometer up to Sir , we have three.
meter ?
Yes, we have three , so move the decimal point
3 places to the right
How about, Example 2 ?
1.5 hm converted to dm?

Who wants to answer on the board?

km hm dam m dm cm mm

Now, in our examples, how do you convert Sir, we are going to move to the left.
larger unit to a smaller unit using metric
converter?
Yes, to convert from a larger unit to a smaller
unit use the metric converter then move the
decimal point in the given quantity one place to
the right until the desired unit is reached.

Very good!
Another example, number 3
Convert 500 cm to m
In what direction are we going to move?

Yes, Very good.

What do you think is the reason why we’ll Sir, it is because we will convert smaller unit
move to the left? to larger unit.

That is correct!
Who wants to show it on the board?
km hm dam m dm cm mm

That is correct! And the last one?

3.15 mm to m

Now, based on our examples here , how do you km hm dam m dm cm mm

convert smaller unit to larger unit using metric
converter?

Yes, to convert from a smaller unit to a larger Sir, move the decimal point to the left.
unit use the metric converter then move the
decimal point in the given quantity one place to
the left until the desired unit is reached.

Did you understand, class ? Yes, Sir.

Do you have any question? None, Sir.

Very good!
G. Application

Let us apply what we have just discussed by

using fortune of wheel.

(The teacher will show the fortune of wheel to

get the given one by one to convert metric unit
of measurement in length.)

Convert each to the indicated unit.

1. 7 m = _____ cm 1. 7 m = 700 cm
2. 1.2 mm = ____ dm 2. 1.2 mm = 0.012 dm
3. 5.3 km = _____ m 3. 5.3 km = 5300m
4. 300 dam = _____ km 4. 300 dam = 3 or 3.00 km
5. 52.48 m = ______ hm 5. 52.48 m =o.5248 hm

H. Generalization
