Audio Visual Aids in Education

Introduction :

Audio literally means ‘hearing’ and ‘visual’ means that which is found by seeing. So all such aids ,
which endeavour to make the knowledge clear to us through our sense are called ‘Audio Visual Aids’
or instructional materials. All these learning material make the learning situations as real as possible
and give us firsthand knowledge through the organs of hearing and seeing. Therefore , any device
which can be used to make the learning experience more concrete and effective, more realistic and
dynamic can be considered audiovisual material.

Definition :

Seven are the ways of knowledge . All the sense organ help us in understanding the environment.
Most of the knowledge , which are acquire from the school comes through our ears and eyes.
However , according to Burton , these are sensory objectives and images which stimulate and
emphasize learning process. It is , after Carter V . Good , is a trainable (motivation , classification and
stimulation) process of learning.

Objectives :

 To increase the individuals experience beyond that acquire through read described as an
audio visual aids.
 To encourage teaching learning process.
 To identify the uses of audio visual aids at college level.
 To know the interest of students in audio visual aids at college level.
 To analyze the effectiveness of audio visual aids in teaching learning process at college level.
 To find out the problems in using audio visual aids.

Significance of the Study :

 Use of Audio-visual aids helps in maintaining discipline in the class since all the students’
attention are focused in learning. This interactive session also develops critical thinking and
reasoning that are important components of the teaching-learning process.
 Student learn when they are motivated and curious about something. Traditional verbal
instructions can be boring and painful for students. However use of audio-visual aids
provides intrinsic motivation to students by peaking their curiosity and stimulating their
interests in the subjects.

Methodology :

Keeping in view the objectives of the study observation has been done with some quarries on
college students about the impact of audio-visual aids in their education.

Articles :

In this connection the noteworthy articles are (i) ‘Audio Visual Aids in Education’ by Umar Farooq
and (ii) ‘A study to analyze the effectiveness of audio visual aids in teaching learning process at
university level’ by Saima Rasul , Radir Balish , Shagia Batool.

Educational Implication of the study :

 Training is given to the teachers for using audio visual aids.


 Proper facilities for using audio visual aids have been managed to give school and colleges.
 Students are being trained for proper use of audio visual aids through seminar
presentations.
 Audio visual aids are being used as motivational and stimulus tools in teaching and learning
English grammar.

Conclusion :

It is clear that the use of audio visual aids gives students clear conceptions. It helps to remove
abstract concepts through visual presentation. Trained teachers can help the students to
maximize the benefits of using there aids. It is an effort to design the curriculum on activity
based learning through audio-visual aids that is effective in education.
