The election of the Sangguniang
Kabataang LSEF (SKL) officers was held
last September 3, 2018, Wednesday. All
preschool, grade school and high school
students were allowed to vote while the
teachers helped the students. Only four
out of the six candidates were elected.
The result was announced after lunch
that same day.

TIM MENDOZA, Grade 7
I had many wonderful and happy
experiences from the recently held
SKL election campaign. The event
taught us how to work together and
have fun. During the campaign, we
made an effort to get everybody
involved, especially the young people.
The most important part of the
campaign for me was that we were
recognized and respected for who
SKL Officers we are. As campaign volunteers, we
went to every classrom, talked to the

participated in the General Assemblies,
Question & Answer Forum, and Miting
de Avance. Together, we promoted
our candidacy by posting banners and
flyers around school. We were asked

Typhoon Ompong
Hits Luzon
Manghut Enters PH
MOMOKA NAKANO, Grade 5
Last September 14-15, Typhoon
Ompong (International name:
Mangkut) came to the Philippines
and landed on the northern part
of Luzon. It measured 905 hpa
(this number tells how strong the
typhoon is. The lower the number,
the stronger the typhoon). I was in
my house that Friday studying, but
the noise because of the rain made
my head ache. I learned that when a
typhoon is coming, we should make
ourselves warm so as to not catch a
cold.

MARVIN ANGELO BORRAS, Grade 6
The government of Sta. Cruz
declared that classes be suspended
last Friday. When Typhoon Ompong
came, it destroyed many houses in
Zambales, Batanes, Batangas and
Nueva Ecija.

In Northern Luzon, many people
went to evacuation centers. Many
houses were broken, there was flood
and garbage scattered because of the
strong winds.
Ilocos Devastation

When Ompong reached the
Philippines, it moved from east to
west. It was signal number 4 in some
places! The houses of poor people
in Ilocos were flooded and it was
chaos! They were in grave danger.
The typhoon’s movement was above
200kph. It was the kind of typhoon
we weren’t prepared for.

Ang Bagyong Ompong o Typhoon
Mangkut ay may lakas ng hangin na

Nanalasa ito sa mga lalawigan ng Luzon
mula timog hanggang hilaga kabilang
na ang Cagayan, Isabela, Camarines
Sur, Sorsogon, at Catanduanes. Sa
rehiyon ng Ilocos, 40,689 milyon ang
halaga ng napinsalang mga ari-arian.
Sa agrikultura, Php16.7 bilyones
ang idinulot nitong pinsala at sa
imprastraktura, P2.38 bilyones ang
nasira. 171,939 ang bilang ng mga
magsasakang apektado nito, samantalang
68 katao ang patay habang 68 ay hindi pa
makita sa Cordillera.
Sa bayan ng Sta. Cruz Laguna naman
nakansela ang mga klase Biyernes pa
lamang. Ang mga guro ng LSEF ay
pumunta sa paaralan upang ayusin ang
eskuwelahan nang hindi mabasa ang
mga mahahalagang bagay at kagamitan.

Ang Bagyong Ompong ay dumating
sa Pilipinas nong nakaraang linggo.
Kami ay nawalan ng pasok simula nung
Biyernes upang hindi kami mapahamak
dahil sa bagyo. May mga lugar na
naputulan ng kuryente dahil sa malakas
na ulan. May isang bagong kasal ang
napadpad na lamang sa isang barangay
hall na isa ring evacuation center, upang
matuloy ang kanilang pagdiriwang
matapos masira ang lugar-pagdarausan.
Pagkatapos ng ilang araw na ulan at
pagkalipas ng bagyo, tumambad ang
maraming gusali at bahay na nasira at
mga kalsadang binaha.

During the drill, we watched a movie about
how to protect ourselves from fire. After
that, we learned how to escape from a dark
and smokey room. We went to the garden to
practice using a fire extinguisher. I didn’t get
to use it, but watching others was fun. The
smoke was hot even when I was already 4
meters away.

I learned that when there is a fire, we should
use the back side our hand to touch things,
because if your palm gets burned, you
cannot use it anymore. If your hand gets
burned, wash it in cold water then cover it

(MTAP) Training Sessions held in

sessions were conducted every Saturday
from August 1 to September 22, 2018.

Some people care about nature and help
make every place beautiful. But people who
don’t care about nature are those who help
destroy it. Those who throw their trash
anywhere cause animals to eat the trash
and die of it. People should not cut trees.
Without trees, it will flood easily, and our
mountains will look ugly. We should report

Pollution and the Ozone
The biggest problem on earth is pollution.
Pollution can be caused by anything. It is
also one of the causes of natural disasters.
First, the cause. When you go camping,
do you make your campfire right? A car
producing smoke is actually polluting the
earth. Next the effect. Whenever carbon
dioxide goes up, it breaks up the ozone
layer. If the ozone layer gets damaged, the
temperature will get higher. That causes
global warming.

My favorite thing to do is to take care of
pets. My favorites are bunnies, kittens and
puppies. I had two bunnies and one kitten.
They were all cute and tiny; and I love them
all. But one day I woke up to find that the
kitten died and I had no idea why. My
parents eventually got me a new one.
Do you like taking care of pets? If you do,
you have to give it lots of water and food.
My favorite part is to give them lots of
love.
You should always check if your pets
are safe. You could also play with them
whenever you have time. I hope you like
pets as much as I do.

Our Sportsfest called “Game,Set,
Match!” was held on August
11, 2018. This day was all about
sports like badminton, basketball,
volleyball, chess, pickup sticks,

were divided into three teams of
secondary colors: green, violet, and orange.
The sportfest was fun for the Kabataang
LSEF because it was like a playday. We ran,
jumped and did lots of fun games. We hope
there would be more days like this!

Our school played sports last August 10,
2018. It was a blast and everyone enjoyed it!
Final standings have Team Orange Royals
leading at 16 points, followed by tight rivals
Green with 13 points and Violet with 12
points. In bastketball, Marwin helped the
Green Team shoot to the top with a three-
point basket. In chess boys’ division, Ethan
executed a nice play to boost the Orange
Team. Violet Team scored with Daiki defeat-
ing Marwin in dama. Volleyball was a riot
when the teachers joined in. But an unbe-
lievable surprise was when Tim and Ethan
won over Marwin “the Smasher” and his
partner Dwayne in badminton. This match
was was full of suspense! Both teams really
gave their best and it was a nice game. That
day was filled with joy and victory.
