 volcanoes found in the Philippines
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to:

C. Learning Competencies/ The learners should be able to…
Objectives LC code for each  differentiate between active and inactive volcanoes; S9ES -IIIa27
o enumerate different descriptions showing different signs
of volcanic eruptions
o label the different parts of the volcano and volcanic
products through the diagram
o Recognize the activities / occurrences of volcanic eruptions
and its effect to human lives
II. CONTENT Volcanoes

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Ask;
presenting the new lesson In your own words, differentiate an active volcano from an inactive one.
Answer: Active volcanoes are those that have records of eruption or have
erupted recently while inactive volcanoes are those that show no record of
eruptio

B. Establishing a purpose for the At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to
lesson What is happening inside the volcano?
Word Wall:
There are three basic external parts of a volcano

C. Presenting examples/instances of
the new lesson

Summit = an opening which may either be a crater or caldera

Slope = degree of slant or inclination
Base =
D. Discussing new concepts and Activity
practicing new skills #1 Volcano
Think-Pair-Share Activity

Time allotment: 10 minutes

1. Students will work in groups:
2. Pictures will be given to each croup
3. Ask them to identify and label the different parts of a volcano
4. List all volcanic materials produced by a volcano
5. Answer the guide questions found in your worksheets.

E. Discussing new concepts and Post Discussion Activity:

practicing new skills #2  Presentation of output:
Learners will present their output individually
 The learners may be asked to compare their definitions and
observations with their classmates.
F. Developing mastery (Leads to
Assessment 3) Checking Your Understanding:
 What is a volcano?
 What are the different structures of volcano. Name one and describe.
 What is magma made of?

G. Finding practical applications of When are volcanoes considered as threat to life and property?
concepts and skills in daily living
H. Making generalizations and Concepts that needs to be emphasized
abstraction about the lesson What is happening inside the volcano?
 As the magma is continuously heated, it goes up.
 As it rises, gas bubbles are developed.
 The gas bubbles are trapped and expanded causing the molten material
to swell, resulting in the gradual increase in pressure within the volcano
 When the pressure exceeds the strength of the overlying rocks,
fracturing occurs
 The resulting breaks lead to a further drop in confining pressure, which
in turn causes even more gas bubbles to form
Scoring Guide:
I. Evaluate learning Correct label – 1 point for every correct label
Creativity – 5 points
Correct response – 2 points/question
Neatness – 5 points
J. Additional activities for
application or remediation
V. ASSIGNMENT What causes volcanoes to erupt?
Why do gas bubbles becomes larger in a volcano?
Bring the following materials
2 identical small basins
Two 300 ml bottled softdrinks (must be sealed before using)
Two 300 ml bottled cooking oil
Hot water and cold water
