PROGRAM NOTE
Translation: Make a joyful sound to God.
“This arrangement was derived from a request to provide Children’s Chorus of Maryland with an
upbeat holiday piece that 6-year-olds to I7-year-olds could leam quickly.
After thinking about the overall concert program and the theme of the concert, “Let the World
Rejoice." a thought occurred to me, The late Renaissance/Early Baroque canon, “Jubilate Deo” is
‘beautiful and exceptionally easy, one that many young singers already know. How would i be to
‘ty coupling it with the “workd music” and "conventional instruments used for other selections
‘on that concert? While the result may be a bit unconventional, you may find that it comes,
together satisfactorily tothe enjoyment of al :
[As for instrumental use, be as creative as you Tike, Use a piano if you don't have a harp. If you
don't have a cello, we @ trombone or « bast Oxf xylophone, or any other low instrument on
hand. We've even included a clarinet parti you don’t have access to a Hom. And if you want to
Teave out some ofthe rhythm instruments oF change them around, do that as wel. Customize as
your needs requir, have fun ..and let the world rejoice!

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Betty Bertaux is the Founder, Education Director and Former Antistic Director of Children’s
‘Chorus of Maryland. She is well known and frequently commissioned asa composer and atranger
fof music for treble choirs. Her works are available inthe Benty Beriaux Music Series. Her choirs,
Known for their beauty of tone and performance excellence have sung at national conferences
and children’s choral festivals in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Dr. Bertaux is also
fctve in teacher training and is frequently engaged a8 a puest conductor, workshop clinician and
Consltant on children’s vocal and music development. During her long carer, she has taught
fonducting for the American Kodély Insitute, ear traning and pedagogy courses for Peabody
Conservatory, Kodily Pedagogy for Holy Names College, and graduate courses on the
‘development of the ebildren's voice and the pedagogy of music literacy for VanderCook College
‘of Music. In recognition of her contribution to the field of choral music education, she was
‘awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music Education from VanderCook College of music,
the frst choral recipient of that honor in the school's history. Dr. Beraux also holds the degrees
‘of Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the Univesity of Tennessee, Master of Music
‘with Kodily Emphasis from Holy Names College, and Master of Music in Compgsition from the
Shepherd School of Music, Rice University. Her successful career has been belt on the belief
that a chikien’s choral director can guide young singers toward a life entiched'by musi through
