Dear Dr. Root:
I would like to apply for the Education Administrator position at Woodland Middle
School in the East Meadow School District. According to the district’s website, the position for
education administrator will be attainable as of September 2018. I hold 17 years’ experience in
the education field as a middle school social studies teacher and look forward to continuing to
have a positive impact on children as I further my career in educational leadership as an assistant
principal.
The more I develop as an educator, the more I realize I find joy in helping others gain
confidence and tap into their passion of learning. Whether it is by implementing creative lessons
that are engaging to students, designing units of instruction with fellow teachers, or
implementing programs that support staff and students, I realize that I have a passion for
supporting others in their endeavors. I am incredibly selfdriven and dedicated to my profession
as I thrive on transforming obstacles into stepping stones and on meeting new challenges with
optimism and enthusiasm.
Working in a multicultural urban middle school in Flushing for seventeen years has
exposed me to various cultures and ethnicities. This multicultural setting has taught me to be
adaptable as well as culturally sensitive to the different learning styles and emotional needs of
students. Likewise, having cotaught English language learners and students with special needs
with various ESL and special education teachers, has exposed me to, and made me receptive of
the different teaching styles and dispositions needed to support the academic and social needs of
all our students. As a former ESL student, I can appreciate the significance a teacher equipped
with such skills can provide in the life of a nonnative English speaker. It can be the determining
factor in the academic success of a student.
