Question from Daniel Begaye (Plant Construction Company, L.P.) at 06:02 PM on 10/23/2018
Per RFI 1372 and 1372.1, the RFI's did not address the current conditions of the P3 Piazza slab edge.; please confirm the joint filler and zip strip in-
between the steel angle and topping slab concrete is acceptable.
Per RFI 1372.1, the waterproofing should extend into the joint filler space to allow proper overlapping of the different waterproofing, please advise.
Lastly, please find sketches by the waterproofing sub-contractor that shows a propose solution to waterproof the slab edge and framed substrate;
please advise if the waterproofing solution is acceptable.

Recommend
turning VPS onto
PMMA minimum 3" Framing by Others
- MH.
Dean/Daniel,
The summary outlined below is in accordance with what was discussed on Thursday. I want to reiterate that this
detail for slab edge works assuming the facade VPS was sealed to the concrete slab, which Joe from Lawson
confirmed in the field. I also want to ensure that the VPS acheives greater than the 1" lap onto the pmma
(ideally 3"). As outlined below, an adhesion test needs to be performed for the VPS onto the PMMA.
Attached is product data for self leveling sealant. Joint depth is 1/4 to 1/2" max.
Thanks
Emile
Plant and their subcontractors are working this weekend. As soon as possible can you reply and confirm the
agreed upon decisions listed below and follow up with formal responses to the two RFIs

Meeting:
P3 Slab Edge Waterproofing and Flashing
Date:
10/25/2018

Attendees:
Dean Randle (BAR Architects)
Emile Wang (Morrison Hershfield)
Mike Danska (Plant Construction)
Darrell Petray (Plant Construction)
Daniel Begaye (Plant Construction)
Phil Agar (Plant Construction)
James Martino (Plant Construction)
Joe Lawson (Lawson Roofing)
Bata Zlatkovic (Van Mulder Sheet Metal)
Eric Bastedo (Van Mulder Sheet Metal)
Summary:
The group agreed on the following items at the P3 Piazza slab edge (Sector 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8).
1.
o Lawson’s proposed a solution, per RFI 1372.2, it showed the Permabarrier (Grace VPS) starting at the steel angle
along the slab edge and terminating at the insulation.
2. The group agreed the Permabarrier (Grace VPS) would not terminate at the insulation but overhang the slab edge and
Lawson would form a creased fold for a drip edge, see photo below.
3.
4. Lawson proposed a solution, per RFI 1372.2, at the steel angle Lawson would install Permabarrier VPS and seal with a
bituthene mastic strip. The bituthebe mastic helps adhere the VPS to PMMA.
a.
b. Lawson needs to perform an adhesion test.
4.
o Additional waterproofing membrane (Grace Ultra) will be installed on the vertical sheathing and horizontal stud to
complete per detail BE800/2 and 3/A823.2.
5. Morrison Hershfield requested a compatible sealant with Grace Ultra be installed around the tube steel to help bridge gap
between Grace Ultra and tube steel.
6.
7. Van Mulder fabricated a flashing sheet metal and soldered a pitch pocket around the electrical conduit, side note this was
option 1 from RFI 1477.1.
b.
c. Option 2 of RFI 1477.1 was not accepted.
7.
8. Morrison Hershfield needs to provide a waterproofing sealant product (e.g. Sika) to infill pitch pocket around conduit. Also,
Morrison Hershfield needs to determine the sealant depth required.
2
Part 4: Waterproofing the steel tube bracket connection
8.
9. Lawson sealed the embed plate and steel tube bracket connection with Grace S-100 (per approved submittal 072713-01-
R1); and Morrison Hershfield found it acceptable.
BAR will formalize the information above in the two pending RFI’s 1372.2 and 1477.1. Plant Construction is proceeding with
information and Plant understands this issue was resolved today.
