NESCAFÉ 3-in-1 Soundskool gives
power to the people
Text and photography by Anne Jamnague
NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool, the country’s biggest battle of the best college bands, con-
tinues to give aspiring rock stars a chance of a lifetime. The only difference this year is
that people now have the chance to choose who will be the grand winner through text and
online votes.
Early this year, NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool started its search for promising bands through
the launch of NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool bus, a mobile recording studio which visited
selected universities all over the country to record an on the spot entry for the said competi-
tion. Aside from it, Gig 101 was also launched last May as an early registration venue and
performance test for amateur bands before a live audience.
Since 2005, NESCAFE 3in1 Soundskool has been looking for potential college bands
that will rock tomorrow’s music scene. So far, it has produced smashing bands like Hilera
(2005), Letter Day Story (2008), and last year’s winner Eevee. This time, they are looking
for an extreme band as they give away higher prizes at stake.
Out of the thousands of entries, only 30 college bands were qualified for the regional elimi-
nations that were held last October 2 at SM North Skydome, and October 9 at Limketkai
Atrium in Cagayan de Oro. 22 bands from Luzon and National Capital Region performed in
Manila, and the rest were from Visayas and Mindanao who performed in Cagayan de Oro. The five chosen grand finalists will be announced on the 17th of October which will be posted in NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool’s
