Preinstall configuration steps for Oracle Apps R12.1.1 with Solaris 10


1. Hostname:
The hostname should be oraspapp.rg.com
2. IP Addresses:
We need 5 IP Addresses in all. For 2 Network Cards, we need 3 IP Addresses to be
configured. 2 Physical and One Virtual IP. Please use IPMP scheme to configure
the same.
One IP Address for the Management Console Port.
One IP Address for SAN storage.
3. Internal Disk configuration During Installation:
There is 300 * 2 = 600GB internal disk. We need a mirror configured for this sto
rage and the 300GB storage should be divided into the following mount points:
100GB for / (includes root, usr, var, tmp, swap etc. everything). As we are usin
g 16GB of RAM, the swap space should be around 32GB.
200GB for /arch01 mount point.
4. External Disks(SAN) Configuration:
There are 8 * 300GB SAN storage available with us. With these 8 SAN Disks, we ne
ed 2 mount points as follows.
4 * 300GB for /app01 mount point with RAID5.
4 * 300GB for /db01 mount point with RAID 0+1.

5. Required OS Patches:
Solaris 10 (5.10)
• 125100-04
• 120473-05
• 127111-02
• 137111-04
Use the following command to check for a specific patch:
$ /usr/sbin/patchadd -p | grep patch_number (without version number)
For example, to check for patch 123456-01, enter::
$ /usr/sbin/patchadd -p | grep 123456
6. Required Packages
• SUNWuiu8
• SUNWulcf
• SUNWlibC
Use the following command to check for existing packages:
$ pkginfo <package name>
7. Other Software Requirements
The following maintenance tools must be installed on all machines, and their loc
ations specified both in the PATH of the account that runs Rapid Install and in
the PATH of the accounts that will own the database tier and application tier fi
le systems.
• ar
• ld
• make
• X Display Server
8. ulimit Value Settings
Verify that the owner of the Oracle Application Server and Oracle Database serve
r file systems have the following 'ulimit' values:
• time (seconds) = unlimited
• file (blocks) = unlimited
• data (kbytes) = 4194303
• stack (kbytes) = 65536
• coredump (blocks) = unlimited
• nofiles (descriptors) = 65536
• vmemory (kbytes) = unlimited
Use the following command to check the ulimit settings:
$ ulimit -a
9. Kernel Settings
The following table lists the kernel settings for Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bi
t):
rlim_fd_max 65536
noexec_user_stack 1
semsys:seminfo_semmni 100
semsys:seminfo_semmsl 256
shmsys:shminfo_shmmax 4294967295
shmsys:shminfo_shmmni 100
Check the /etc/system file to verify the kernel settings.
10. Host Names Settings
Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
<ip_address> <node_name>.<domain_name> <node_name>
